Burn Notice: Turn and Burn

(S02E02) "Who's the puta now?" Me after Sophia revealed herself to Raul.

As I watch Michael have his meeting with Carla, I can't help but wonder what I would do in his situation. On the one hand, like Michael, I would really be obsessed with finding out who burned me and why. When you've been a spy as long as he has, it's impossible to let that kind of thing go.

On the other hand, Carla seems to be a good number of steps ahead of Michael at all times, so maybe the best thing to do is just follow her instructions and play by her rules until she finally comes across with the information. It's got to be damn frustrating to be outsmarted by her every time.

I don't know if USA made a deal with the yogurt council, but I loved that part of the show. Plenty of shows have a character who is a freak for a certain kind of food. Radar loved grape Nehi. Charlie Crews has his fruit fetish, but Michael, Fiona and Sam all seem to have a thing for yogurt. Even better, they rarely are seen eating anything else. The good news is that if the Dannon people are telling the truth, the three of them will live to a ripe old age (as long as they don't get killed).

It's no wonder Michael has such a problem dealing with Fiona on a personal level. When you see the way his Mom can't go one day without begging him to help her with something, it's a miracle that he could have any feelings for a woman at all.

I know many of you were worried that Michael was done helping the helpless. Well, even though Sophia showed up to ask for help with her stalker, don't be too sure that she's telling the whole story, since people on Burn Notice rarely are. Case in point: the very large gun carried by said stalker.

It's good to see that Michael is as smart as I am, if not smarter. When he smelled something funny, he went right to Sophia and got the truth. What I don't get is why he continued to work on the case. He only took it in the first place because he felt sorry for her. But seeing how her status as a DEA agent makes her considerably less sympathetic, what reason does he have to make his life more complicated? Unless, of course, he's one of those guys who thrives on chaos. Hmm.

For the first time in the history of this series, the "check washing" tutorial was the first scene that showed me something that I could actually do myself. Not that I need the problems that forging checks would bring me, but I really hope that there is a little more to it than what we saw, or else I'm going to invest in some state-of-the-art pens.

As I watch Tricia Helfer work her magic on Michael, I am reminded of a similar character played by Jodi Lyn O'Keefe on Prison Break. I never really bought O'Keefe as the tough handler who people should be scared of, probably because she came on so strong. Helfer, however, plays her role with such carelessness that I get the impression Carla doesn't care if people are scared of her because she can do whatever she wants. Moreover, if she ever does lose her temper, it's probably going to make quite an impression.

I loved the last scene between Michael and his Mom. It's nice to see Sharon Gless get a chance to act instead of overact, for a change.
