ALMA award nominations announced

Eva Longoria ParkerEva Longoria Parker and Cristiàn de la Fuente were on hand on Monday to announce the 2008 ALMA Award nominations. The National Council of La Raza presents the award annually to Latino entertainers in film and television. Longoria Parker is hosting and producing the ceremony again this year. This year's group of celebrated actors, writers, and directors will receive their awards on August 17. ABC is broadcasting the awards show on September 12.

Surprisingly, Eva Longoria Parker didn't get a nomination for her Desperate Housewives role, but her on-screen husband, Ricardo Chavira, did (Update: she took herself out of the running). Other notable names missing from the list of nominees are America Ferrera and Ana Ortiz from Ugly Betty, who won awards last year.

Among the deserving actors who did get a nod for their outstanding work: Battlestar Galactica's Edward James Olmos, Oscar Nuñez from The Office, and Dexter's Lauren Velez. There were a couple of head-scratchers for me, though. I always thought that Dania Ramirez's Maya was one of the most disliked new characters on Heroes; am I wrong there? Also, since when is Psych a drama? I'm glad that James Roday was nominated, but he belongs in the comedic acting category. The complete list of TV-related nominees is below. Feel free to sound off on who was overlooked, who is overrated, and who will win.
