Battlestar Galactica 30th anniversary - Comic-Con Report

A panel I almost skipped turned out to be better than I think a lot of people thought was the 20th anniversary Battlestar Galactica panel. I think most people are holding out for the official BSG panel later in the 'Con, but I was glad I was able to sit in for at least most of this panel before I had to run to the next one.

In attendance: Richard Hatch, Tom DeSanto, Bear McCreary and Dr. Kevin Grazier.
  • Hatch joked that he had a frontal lobe lobotomy to forget about the BSG 1980 series.
  • There was a deal with Tom DeSanto at one point to do another BSG continuation back in, I believe, 1998. It was greenlighted for a $13m backdoor pilot and was to be FOX's cornerstone in pace of the then-ended X-Files. 9-11 happened and they had to halt the start of shooting. We were treated to some amazing visuals from that series that was scrapped, which looked a lot like the BSG we know today.
  • We were shown footage Bear put together of the season 3 finale with the 'All Along the Watchtower' music that, of course, was haunting and beautiful. The audio in that room was incredible for it too.
  • DeSanto mentioned what the last episode was going to be of that new series, which could very well be a big hint toward how the current series will end. Audio embedded below for that -- hopefully you can make it out, but I can clarify later in a comment if not.
  • I'm not quite sure why Grazier was there, as he didn't say a thing while I was there. Yes, I know he works for NASA's JPL and is a consultant for the show.
The Bear McCreary stuff was worth the price of admission alone. I just wish I had the time and means to see him perform that stuff live.

We may not be as effervaceous as Trekkies (Trekkers), but we love us some BSG child!
