FOX orders season five of So You Think You Can Dance
Looks like next summer we are getting another season of So You Think You Can Dance. The dance competition will continue to rule the summer with its fifth season next year. This shouldn't come as a big surprise to anyone -- whether you watch the show or not. It's basically the American Idol of the summertime, the off-season Lythgoe/Fuller powerhouse. The ratings are stellar. Both Wednesday and Thursday telecasts rank number one in their respective time periods in all key demographics. Furthermore, the show has been Emmy nominated, earning four nods this year for choreography by Wade Robson, Shane Sparks, and Mandy Moore.
FOX's President of Alternative Entertainment, Mike Darnell is delighted to have So You Think You Can Dance back for a fifth year. He exclaims, "FOX is very lucky to have television's preeminent performance competitions in American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance, and it's no coincidence that creator and executive producer Simon Fuller and executive producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe have been a part of both these successes."
And why wouldn't Darnell be happy? Not only does Idol and SYTYCD draw ratings, both shows go on tour after the competition is over. The So You Think Can Dance Live Tour 2008 will kick off Saturday September 20th in Tacoma, WA.What do you think? Are you psyched for another season? Or are you just plain sick of Fuller/Lythgoe machine?
