What to Watch Tuesday, Aug. 5

by Kim Potts, posted Aug 5th 2008 6:00AM
'Secret Life of the American Teenager'
(8PM, ABC Family)
It happens tonight: While pregnant teen Amy has been dealing with her impending unplanned parenthood for weeks now, she finally lets Mama Juergens, aka '80s teen queen Molly Ringwald, in on the news.

Ringwald has prior on-screen experience with the unplanned pregnancy thang: she starred as a teen mom in the 1988 flick 'For Keeps.' But whether or not she'll be understanding about band geek daughter Amy's sitch remains to be seen. After all, Anne's got problems of her own, namely her wandering hubby, and she's not likely to be pleased about the fact that Amy has taken five episodes -- er, several weeks -- to let her know she's gonna be a grandma.

Fans of ABC Family's surprise summer hit should be pleased, however, about the network's decision to order 13 more episodes of the show. The mama drama, uh, drama, will continue to air new episodes through September, with the newly-ordered batch of installments set to kick off in January.

'Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood'
(10PM, Oxygen)
A future star is born? Tori and Dean head to the hospital to bring baby Stella into the world.

'Flipping Out'
(10PM, Bravo) 2nd season finale
Can you say houseguest from Hell? Jeff's suddenly homeless when Commonwealth sells, and we have a feeling that his associates aren't going to be rushing to offer the prickly flipper a place to crash.

'Million Dollar Listings'
(11PM, Bravo) 2nd season premiere
The young real estate hotshots return, but there's trouble afoot: Chad tangles with a client and gets bad news from his girlfriend, while Josh strains a friendship by urging his pal to invest in a fixer-upper.

'Smash Lab'
(10PM, Discovery) 2nd season premiere
Everyone's favorite cabbie, 'Cash Cab' host Ben Bailey, joins the show as the new narrator, while the 'Smash' gang tries to concoct new, potentially life-saving goodies, like tonight's experiment with exterior auto airbags.

'I Survived a Japanese Game Show'
(9PM, ABC) 1st season finale
Sure, reality series like 'American Idol,' 'Top Chef' and 'The Amazing Race' get the Emmy nominations, but they don't have contestants don suits made of sponge as they jump into giant bowls of water, do they? No they don't.

'Food Detectives'
(9PM, Food Network)
We thought 'Seinfeld' offered the definitive word on double-dipping, but apparently not, as Ted examines whether or not double-dipping your chips and crudité can spread cooties.

Tomorrow's preview: 'Tyler Perry's House of Payne,' 'MythBusters' and more
