Changes coming to the CNN lineup (unfortunately)

by Bob Sassone, posted Aug 7th 2008 1:01PM
CNNI can't tell you exactly what I'll be doing every weekday at 3pm starting September 8, but I do know one thing: I won't be watching CNN anymore.

New CNN Director of Programming Scott Matthews sent out an e-mail to the entire staff earlier this week outlining the on-air changes that will start on that day. Heidi Collins will anchor solo from 9am to 11am, then Tony "I Always Look Over To The Side For Some Reason" Harris takes over solo from 11am to 1pm, then Kyra Phillips (she's great!) does the 1pm to 3pm slot, and then...drumroll please...Rick Sanchez takes over from 3pm to 4pm. I've talked about my aversion to Sanchez before, but I guess the people at CNN just don't see what viewers see. I suppose we should be thankful that he's only doing a one hour shift and not the two hours that the others are doing. I guess I can switch to something else between 3 and 4.

Where is Don Lemon in all of this? He won't be anchoring on the weekdays anymore. He's taking over the CNN Newsroom gig on the weekends and will become a correspondent the rest of the week.

Oh no! I love Don Lemon! I watch it every afternoon on the ellipse at the gym. I'll miss his handsome face and snazzy ties.

I liked Sanchez when he was on MSNBC, but not on CNN. I can't remember who co-anchored with him on MSNBC.

CNN is hard to watch. They've taken the Lou Dobbs-ian advocacy journalism to the nth degree and now everyone has an opinion and voices it in the midst of reporting the news. Are they crazy? I want the news, not their commentary on every story. CNN is in desperate need of a strong hand to get them back to being unbiased. It's not only that, Sanchez is a horror, as is Harris. They're unwatchable. Then Wolf Blitzer, I noticed, doesn't let anyone answer a question. He was interviewing someone and jumped in after each question, never letting the guy get his answer out. Argh! I've been turning CNN off more than leaving it on.

I'm a big MSNBC fan.

CNN needs more attractive hosts--like Betty Nguyen--during the day. Then I would switch over.

With Hilary out of the pres race, what does CNN have left to cover?

Sanchez has to have dirt on someone there... he is the worst. They can't not see that. He makes me cringe repeatedly during interviews. I can't stand that plastered on self-satisfied smirk.
And yeah, omega, i usually put on ac360 or larry king in the background when i get home, and TIVO countdown. I don't think I'm alone in this.

I agree with you completely. I have never, ever understood why CNN retains Rick Sanchez or continues to keep him on the air. He is an embarrassment to the network and an insult to our collective intelligence. Thank God they are moving Tony Harris to a time slot that I won't be watching. It saddens me that someone actually thinks that the only time people need to watch the news is when something BIG happens. That is one of the reasons why our beloved country is in trouble. Americans continue to show the world their ignorance and lack of knowledge of what is going on in the world. Shame on you....keep watching reality tv and gameshows.

If I want to watch what's going on in the world, I'll turn on the BBC World News.

If I want to know who's suing who and listen to anchors who think they're more important than what they're supposedly reporting on, I'll watch one of the domestic news channels.

There are reasons people think The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are more reliable sources of news than CNN, MSNBC and Fox.

Sanchez is a horror. I don't understand how CNN can't see it.

Does anybody actually watch the news networks at home, if there isn't some big event happening? Sure, if I'm at the airport or something, and CNN or MSNBC is on (if FOX is on, I'd rather take a nap), I might watch it for a few minutes, but who actually watches any of the news networks for entertainment??!

I agree Sanchez is an a-hole but at least you wasn't tortured by him by living in South Florida when he was appart of the WSVN 7 news.... what a bubble brain.

I'm sure they are glad he left!
