Can she talk? Leah Remini in talks for a talk show

Rach and LeahQueen Latifah couldn't make it work. Megan Mullally struck out, too. In fact, if you think about it, more stars fail in their attempts to become talk show hosts than succeed. For every Ellen DeGeneres and Tyra Banks, there's a Caroline Rhea and Magic Johnson.

So, will sitcom star Leah Remini go from the King of Queens to the queen of daytime talk? CBS -- home of King of Queens for a very successful run from 1998-2007 -- is developing a daytime show for Leah Remini that's being called something different than a typical talk show.

If you tune in to The Rachael Ray Show today, you might get an idea of what Leah could bring to daytime -- she's Rach's guest.

As the mother of a three-year-old, Leah's shared at home footage of trying to deal with her daughter's difficulties getting off the bottle. That's a milk bottle. The kid likes milk, like most little ones.

Anyway, I've seen Leah on Rachael before and also on Ellen's show, and she is really good at being off the cuff and funny. On Ellen, they did a bit in which Leah invited Ellen to come to her home for a visit and Leah put her to work vacuuming the house and watching the baby. If Leah were to come up with an afternoon show that combined talk with on the street, in the store, at her home and off the wall segments that highlighted her humor and charm, it could work.

When you look over the daytime landscape, why not give Leah Remini a shot? After all, The King of Queens is doing big numbers in syndication and she may be more popular now than when the show was in CBS primetime.

If the deal gets done, Leah's show would be slated for a Fall 2009 launch. But hey, it's never too soon to start planning.

She did extended call in interviews/guest host gigs here in NY and she was excellent. Has Brooklyn sarcasm without being annoying or obnoxious. I look forward to watching her give it a try.

If she has a great personality, like Ellen, people will look beyond her being a Scientologist.
