You wouldn't believe the things donated to the Jerry Lewis telethon

Jerry LewisIt's amazing what passes for donations at the Jerry Lewis telethon these days. Apparently, the gun found in the big guy's luggage was one of them.

Now, I guess I have to go through this again. For the Muscular Dystrophy Association, cash is preferred. Checks are accepted. Firearms must be donated via a special table located in the back. I wonder what else people can donate? Marijuana or pornography, perhaps?

This does beg the question of such as thing as bad publicity. I don't know if this incident hurts the telethon's donations. On the other hand, is the 82-year-old comedian or his telethon even relevant anymore? In my youth, everybody watched the telethon for celebrity appearances. Now, it's difficult to remember even when it airs.

Lewis did say that the gift was from an engraver at last year's telethon and he didn't travel since then. What do you think? Is the story flimsy or believable?

It's become part of labor day weekend.. I remember when I was young and i got to stay up late and sometimes would get to sleep in living room and watch/sleep all night.

The money goes to more then cure research..it buys equipment for those that can't afford it..I think there are camps..it has been a while since i get to watch.. working late nights and overnight now.

Sad to say, but the telethon has been going on for years and years and all that money collected. But where is the cure, not even close. I think Jerry should give it up. Enough already. I feel sooooooooooooooo sorry for the children and their families, but I feel they are being used. I used to give but don't anymore. I feel St Jude is a much better charity as well as the St Joseph School for Indians. Sorry but that is how I feel.

I agree. They haven't found a cure for cancer, AIDS or Alzheimer's either. Let stop wasting our money on them too - "read with a sarcastic tone"

Um...Labor Day?

But I agree with your point about it being irrelevant.
