Rachel Maddow takes Dan Abrams' spot on MSNBC

by Allison Waldman, posted Aug 20th 2008 8:39AM
Rachel MaddowIf you watch MSNBC for the politics fix, no doubt you have seen Rachel Maddow. She's one of the talking heads, a politically savvy woman who has been featured on shows like Hardball with Chris Matthews and Countdown with Keith Olbermann.

In fact, she's been Keith's regular fill-in this summer, a sure sign that she's MSNBC's star on the rise. The network has just announced that Rachel Maddow has been chosen to replace MSNBC's Dan Abrams, bumping his show Verdict out of the primetime lineup.

Maddow is getting a great spot on MSNBC, right after Countdown at 9 p.m. Abrams is not getting kicked to the curb. Like when Tucker Carlson lost his show and remained one of the net's pundits.

As I said, Maddow's promotion is not a surprise. Watching her the past six months or so -- throughout this long primary season and into the upcoming convention time -- she's really impressed me with her style, personality and charisma. Her emergence reminded me, believe it or not, of another Rachel, the one who spells her name Rachael. Yes, Rachael Ray. I recall watching RR on Food Network back in 2002, doing just one show, 30 Minute Meals, and thinking, "Hmm, she's got something." I got the same feeling when I watched Rachel Maddow.

The last Verdict is Thursday of this week. Rachel's new hour-show will be launched on September 8, 2008. Abrams was cool about losing his perch, saying that a Maddow show is the right move at this time.

As for Rachel, her reaction was gleeful. When she appeared on Countdown with Olbermann tonight, she admitted that she was blushing through her makeup.

Thank you for making a great move putting a smart, savvy, enlightened, progressive, and most importantly -- LIBERAL -- woman front and center. I can't wait to watch her debut show on September 8 and will spread the good word. In one word: finally.

Rachel will be a great addition to MSNBC. She is extremely smart, articulate and very funny. Chris Matthew better be watching over his shoulder because Rachel is tapping you on the shoulder to move over.

Oh... so you're the 4 or 5 people that actually watch that station.

I seriously hope none of you lefties are going to scold us mean conservatives about Fox news and "Fair and Balanced"

Chris "feeling up my leg when Obama speaks" Mathews
Keith "Shut the Hell up Mr. President" Oberman
and now Rachel and her "Air America" views

sweet!

Please don't compare her to Rachael Ray. God, I hate that woman with the fiery passion of a thousand microwaved burritos.

WOW! That's a hell of a one-two punch for MSNBC .They continue to eat away at Fake News Network fake ratings .Maybe the FNN will give Rush Slimeball his own show as a counter balance to the truth coming from Keith and Rachel.

I'm happy for Rachel--it's a well-deserved promotion! I'll have to check out the show when it premieres, but I already watch Olbermann's show, and don't have time to watch both regularly.

I am 72 and I watch MSNBC live or via my recording of it every evening. I think that a good title would be STAY IN THE KNOW WITH RACHEL MADDOX. Rachel isf very great and she really desreves this promotion.
