What to Watch Friday, Aug. 22

by Kim Potts, posted Aug 22nd 2008 6:00AM
'Meerkat Manor'
(8:30-10PM, Animal Planet) 4th season finale
This three-episode mini-marathon concludes with an installment called 'The Darkest Day,' and if you read the rumors that popped up online in June, you know that title refers to yet another sad meerkat death.

No spoilers for those who don't know, but suffice it to say that it always seems like the fan favorites are among the furry little 'kats who take the hardest hits.

Elsewhere in the Kalahari, Wilson and Phillippe try to get their grooves on with the ladies, Rocket Dog gets ready to bring her second litter of pups into the world and Zorro, the Commandos' dominant male, goes MIA. Never a dull moment in desert ...

'The Cheetah Girls One World'
(Fri., 8PM, Disney)
Oh, no! It's Cheetah vs. Cheetah (vs. Cheetah), when Chanel, Dorinda and Aqua travel to India to star in a Bollywood movie. The glitch: There's only one role, and they have to compete against each other for it.

'Discovery Project Earth'
(9PM, Discovery) series premiere
Al Gore made a fancy PowerPoint presentation and got an Oscar. But the scientists in this new series propose some grand, innovative ideas – like glacier-covering blankets – to help deal with the threats of climate changes, and use equally grand experiments to see if their theories will fly.

'Monk'
(9PM, USA)
Monk fooled around and fell in love, but his friends aren't so sure they like the object of his affection. Mostly because they think she's a very guilty murder suspect.

'Stargate Atlantis'
(10PM, Sci Fi)
Dr. McKay thinks he's the sharpest tool in the shed, which makes his new, potentially fatal illness -- one that robs him of his memories and forces him to regress to a child-like state -- all the more painful.

'Gone Country'
(8PM, CMT)
You can't croon the tunes unless you're willing to don the duds, apparently, which means Lorenzo Lamas, Jermaine Jackson and Sebastian Bach are going to have to round up some countrified ensembles for their first photo shoots as wannabe C&W artists.

What's on this weekend: 'Law & Order: Criminal Intent,' 'Generation Kill' finales and more
