"Guess Who's Coming to Denver": Seeing Jon Stewart and Aasif Mandvi make those jokes about (not) seeing Barack Obama's speech made me wonder if there are still any regular viewers who don't understand when The Daily Show (and The Colbert Report) tape and air their episodes. I remember when I started watching Conan O'Brien when I was super young, all the "It's really 11:30 at night!" jokes flew way over my head. So, just in case you don't know but are too embarrassed to ask: Both TDS and TCR tape around 6:00 or 7:00 in the evening and then air the same night. There.I had no idea about Barack Obama's uncle either. That kind of blew my mind, because I was thinking the same, exact thing as Jon. "Barack Obama has an adorable, white, war hero uncle? Why is this the first time we're seeing this? If I were Obama, every time I campaign down South, I would have that guy strapped into a BabyBjörn and walkin' around." Well, except in my head, the uncle was riding piggy-back.
"Barack Obama: He Completes Us": Now, let's take a moment to talk about how amazing this was. It was ridiculous and hilarious and a little bit creepy (I am thinking of Barack-Simba, specifically). I have never wanted to work for TDS' graphics department so badly, if only to inexplicably cut in footage of cloud-goats and episodes of What's Happening!! into my material. In other news, Barack Obama was really not a cute baby.
The night's guest was Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana. The interview was pretty straightforward, talking about Barack Obama and how to be, like, totally BFFs with him. I've noticed that the Denver crowd is especially responsive to, well, just about everything. Just the other night they exploded into boos when John Oliver joked about another Democratic failure and once again at Senator Bayh for that sports remark. Does high altitude cut down on emotional checkpoints or speed up reaction time?
Moment of Zen: ABC News thinks Barack Obama has two daddies.
John McCain has just picked his VP, by the way, and it's a lady. I will do my best to hold back my personal political views in this situation, but I desperately hope that Jonny Stew and his crew take a break from the DNC coverage to talk about this. I hope the words "dick move" are involved.
