ABC orders In The Motherhood
That line between web content and traditional television just continues to get blurrier. ABC has ordered 13 episodes of In The Motherhood. In case you missed it, the show didn't start out with the traditional pilot formula. It's a web-based show starring Jenny McCarthy, Leah Remini, and Chelsea Handler. The three of them play girlfriends and the stories told come from real stories submitted by mothers from across the country. Or, people pretending to be mothers. You can watch it at the show's site, if you're curious.
ABC liked it enough that they've already ordered thirteen episodes and are moving people from another of their pilots, Bad Mother's Handbook, over to the new show. Jennifer Konner and Alexandra Rushfield, from Help Me Help You, will write the show with Stu Bloomberg (In Justice) producing. The big news though, is that Megan Mullally is also making the jump to the new show. She's expected to be joined by Handler from the original, and possibly Cheryl Hines as the third mother. I'm curious to see how it all shakes out. The short skits on the web are funny, but stretching the idea into a half-hour comedy is going to take some work.
