What to Watch Weekend, Sept. 27-28

by Kim Potts, posted Sep 27th 2008 5:00AM
'Desperate Housewives'
(Sun., 9PM, ABC) 5th season premiere
The women of Wisteria Lane have leapt five years into the future, and what a difference a day -- or five years' worth -- makes.

Susan and Mike: kaput, and Susan is now hooked up with that hot season four finale guy who looked a lot like 'Queer as Folk's' Gale Harold. Because he is. Meanwhile, Lynette's twin 'tween terrors have become twin teen terrors, Bree's lost custody of her grandson and Gaby's lost control of her kids and her model figure.

And then there's Edie, who makes a surprising return to the 'hood, with a surprising partner in tow: Dave, her new hubby, who's bringing the latest 'DH' mystery with him.

'The Amazing Race'
(Sun., 8PM, CBS) 13th season premiere
Wouldn't it be cool if, in addition to that one meeeellion dollar prize, the winners also got frequent flyer miles for all the trips the contestants take during the season?

'Chris Rock: Kill the Messenger'

The economy, the election ... his favorite topic, marriage ... there's no lack of fodder for Rock's riffs in this special, a collection of his recent performances in London, South Africa and New York City.

Move over, Dog. Homer the Bounty Hunter is on the trail of Springfield's baddies.

(Sun., 9PM, Showtime) 3rd season premiere
Dexter isn't expecting the news he gets from girlfriend Rita, but it makes the new season pregnant with possibilities. Heh heh heh ... no one will crack that subtle spoiler hint.

'Little Britain USA'

(Sun., 10:30PM, HBO) series premiere
The hit British sketch series gets an American version, with original series creators and stars Matt Lucas and David Walliams, new characters, and, in the premiere, guest star Rosie O'Donnell poking fun at herself in a 'Fat Fighters' skit.

'Family Guy'
(Sun., 9PM, Fox) 6th season premiere
Brian and Cleveland both fall for a woman they met at a bookstore, while Stewie acts as Brian's love coach. Hey ... wasn't that a 'Seinfeld' episode, with Newman acting as Kramer's Cyrano?

'The Unit'
(Sun., 10PM, CBS) 4th season premiere
A potential presidential assassination? Dennis Haysbert must feel like he's back on the '24' set.

Happy Birthday, Roger, and good luck finding a cake to hold those 1,600 candles.
