Desperate Housewives: You're Gonna Love Tomorrow (season premiere)

Desperate Housewives
(S05E01) "She's back!" - Lynette about Edie

Even if most of the Desperate Housewives fans knew well in advance that there would be a five-year jump in the season finale, many were left wondering what the hell would happen next. One of the questions Desperate Housewives fans wanted answered most was what made Susan and Mike divorce. Luckily for fans, we've got a pretty good idea what broke Susan and Mike up in this week's season premiere.

Personally, I was one of those Desperate Housewives fans who embraced the five-year jump. I saw it as a way to rejuvenate the series, offer new storylines and get rid of the Kinsman twins. The series premiere delivered on all three counts.

The five-year jumped allowed the writers to move each character forward and offer us new mysteries and flashbacks to chew on. It's clear that this season's main mystery will be why someone should be worried about Dave and who that person is. I think the latter is Mrs. McCluskey and that's somehow she's part of the reason why he has rage issues. It wouldn't surprise me if we learn that Dave used to live on Wisteria Lane and that he married Edie to have a reason to move back there and seek revenge. Even if we only saw Dave for about 10 minutes this week, I find his character intriguing and look forward to seeing more of him and his control over Edie.

Other mysteries will be: Susan and Mike's divorce, Danielle taking Ben back and Bree giving Orson another chance. "You're Gonna Love Tomorrow" showed us that Susan and Mike broke up because of the car accident; they didn't deal with the event the same way and didn't understand why the other one didn't feel the same. Even if their breakup is not a real mystery, I'm looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds in the flashbacks. It will also be interesting to see how Danielle got her life back on track, how Bree lived without Ben and how she forgave Orson and took him back (it's probably because she felt lonely but there must be more to that story).

I'm glad that the five-year jump allowed the show to get rid of the Kinsman twins because they are not really good actors. However the twin teens who replaced them are not that much better actors. I'm willing to cut them some slack because having the Scavo kids be teens brings new storylines to the series and offers fun scenes between Lynette and Tom.

If you read my reviews last year, you may recall that I was ready to write off Gabby and Carlos because their storyline was boring. Soccer-mom Gabby is fun to watch so I'm happy that the couple was not written off. Juanita is also another nice addition to the cast. I'm looking forward to seeing Gabby go through pregnancies and what happened for her, a former model, to let her kids go fat.

And what to say about Katherine and Bree other than delicious as always!

I thought the funiesnt part of the episode is when Susan's boy toy was sneaking out of the house trying to put his shirt back on and the gay neighbors saw this and one of them took a pic w/ his phone...LOL

I wasn't crazy about the season premiere.

-Gabby's daughter is NOT 4. That child doesn't have the looks, mannerisms or speech patterns that a 4 yr old would have.

-Susan, bleh ... that is all

-Bree I love. Katherine I still don't love.

-I'm going to enjoy the Scavo twins and how their parents deal with them.

-Edie's husband? I think maybe he's Mrs. McCluskey's bio son that she gave up for adoption when she was younger. It's a thought.

I love this show even more now. It was starting to get cheezy and strained by the end of last season. Now there is so much to go off on.

I love how the writers unravel the plot, they let you guess, then they let you guess again, and then they give you another hint to ponder on. It lets you get more involved than in other shows.

Yet, I found myself constantly surprised by the randomness and jumpyness of the plot line.

Some points to leave with:
- Why did Bree say orsen is gone in the memory recap...and then he is back, yet looks sickly and sad.I think he got ill and Bree had to take him back.
-I was really really really glad mike was not dead. They made us think he was, but then i backed up and said NO WAY, there is no way they would kill off one of the most attractive males on the show--and everybody loves Mike and Susan together. They are a sexy couple.
-I love the playful contantly combatitive relationship that Lynette and Tom have. I was however, very surprised by Toms response to lynettes comments.. Was he serious? And then it just kind of seemed really extreme and out of character. I had multiple confused/wtf moments during this episode.
-What is wrong with Edie? Does this man have a spell over her--is he controlling her mind? This is the most puzzling of all. Edie has never been a woman to take orders, or be tricked by anybody. She has always been very in control and on the ball..What is going on with her!!!!

-I think susan and mike are going to get back together...why doesn't susan go back to mike!!!

Other than the missing kids, that everyone else has mentioned (I just thought it was strange leaving the other boy out), I also didn't believe that Gabby's daughter was 4. She talked way above a 4-year old level. But, I guess those are just nit-picky things. The one thing I really can't believe s Susan & Mike splitting up. After all Susan has went thru chasing Mike over the years & they split up. Just seems like Susan gives up really easily & then starts sleeping around again!

Dave is not out to get mike or susan because they ran over and killed that woman and her baby. That dave guy was not the husband and father of those people who got in the crash because if you listened in the beginning of the show, daves last name is williams or something like that, and that womans last name started with a "D" i think.Anyways, their last names were completely different so he couldnt be the husband of that woman. So hes probably out to get someone else.

If anyone has an idea of who that guy is after, post it up cause im dying to know!

the premire was good, except Gabys girl being 4 give me a break, she looked and acted older than that, the other daughter looked 4, don't know if the writer would be so obvious.(sp) about edies hubby being-the father/hubby of the women and child that was killed by susan/mike but that is what i thought!

The other Shavo kids will be there. Penny & Parker. Parker is now a computer geek & he's younger than the twins. I saw pictures of the new kids in TV Guide (I think). Also the evil step-daughter may return as well.

Carlos: "I'm trying to make vegetables fun!"
Gabby: "You want fun? Give her a carrot and put her on a rollercoaster!"

This show just Jumped the SHARK!!!

All my wife could say was... "WTF was that?"

I guess when you've run out of ideas for a popular show it's easiest to just reinvent the characters by doing a time jump.

Lazy. That's all I can think of to summarize the production of this show. Will it all be a dream at the end of the season? Maybe the writers will have enough ideas to pick up where last season left off by then.

This show is doomed.
