What to Watch Tuesday, Sept. 30

by Kim Potts, posted Sep 30th 2008 5:00AM
'Paris Hilton's My New BFF'
(10PM, MTV) series premiere
What kind of girl would aspire to be a Paris Hilton bestie? Get a look at 'em here, as 16 potential new sidekicks (including two dudes) shack up with Paris and compete in various challenges to try and prove themselves BFF material.

From flying off to Japan, sans luggage, and being told to get themselves red-carpet ready to having to gain entry into Hollywood hotspots when their names are not on the list, the contestants will have to respond to Hilton's every whim if they want to be her new Nicole Richie, or, as Paris puts it, "someone who could be like my sister."

Except that, unlike Paris's actual sister, the new BFF's not getting a cut of the family fortune.

'Half Their Size: The People Magazine Weight Loss Challenge'
(10PM, ABC)
Don't go thinkin' you've got a lock on weight-loss success stories, 'The Biggest Loser.' The eight Mississippians profiled here have spent months of hard work dropping some quite an impressive number of el-bees.

'Fringe'
(9PM, Fox)
Pacey, Joey and Dawson investigate a cylinder found in the rubble of a construction site explosion. Unlike everything else around it, the cylinder remained intact. And yes, we know Joey and Dawson aren't involved. But a 'Creek'-lovin' tube fan can dream, right?

'90210'
(8PM, The CW)
A blast from the past makes Kelly rethink her budding relationship with Ryan. Not sure, but we're guessing said blast rhymes with "Schmylan."

'Scare Tactics'
(10PM, Sci Fi Channel)
Tonight's scare involves a taxicab passenger and a fake accident. Anyone who's ridden in a New York City taxi driven by an angry cabbie can attest that you don't necessarily need the accident bit to have the bejeezus scared out of you during a cab ride.

'The Shield'
(10PM, FX)
The walls continue to close in on Vic as Shane tries to turn Ronnie against Mr. Mackey. Of course, Vic being Vic, neither Shane nor Ronnie should count on making it out of the series finale alive, either.

'Weird Connections'

(10PM, Science Channel) series premiere
Like the title says, scientists make amazing, life-saving connections while pairing up seemingly random things. Tonight: A locust is shown 'Star Wars,' which leads one biologist to come up with info that will help keep America's roadways safe.

What's on tomorrow: 'Pushing Daisies,' 'Friday Night Lights' premieres and more
