Dancing With The Stars: Week 2 Results

Kym Johnson and Warren Sapp - Dancing With The Stars
(S07E05) It's time for the second week eliminations. The early week eliminations are always interesting times because, more often than not, the results are a little screwy. I'm reminded of past seasons that saw Jerry Springer, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Master P, to name a few, all hanging on far longer than their dancing abilities warranted. Would we see something similar tonight? The results, and a quick rundown of the results show performances, are after the jump.

Before we get to those results, let's take a quick look at the performances this week. It all kicked off with the encore. Warren & Kym were chosen for their Matrix inspired paso doble. As Len put it, "For its drama, for its artistry, for its entertainment." It also fit well with the Stars Of Dance piece. That one was choreographed by Brian Friedman and featured Pussycat Doll Carmit Bacher and Jenna Dewan of Step Up (and Tamara!).

The musical guest this week was Jessica Simpson. She did two songs, her current hit "Come On Over" and a cover of the Robbie Williams track, "Angels". It didn't do much for me. She doesn't have a very dynamic voice, and her stage performance was a little dull. All was not lost though. Her two songs paved the way for two really good dance performances. On the first song, she was joined by Pasha Kovalev and Anya Garnis. Many of you will recognize them from their time on So You Think You Can Dance, I'm sure. The second number featured Cheryl and Maks.

And that brings us to the results. In case you are tracking the order to try and uncover some secret method to the "no particular order" madness, here they are in the order they were saved from elimination. Toni & Alec, Rocco & Karina, Cody & Julianne, Brooke & Derek, Susan & Tony, Warren & Kym, Maurice & Cheryl, Lance & Lacey, Misty & Maks, Cloris & Corky.

Of course, that means that Kim & Mark have been knocked out of the competition. Based on the comments we've seen on the site, that's just the result a lot of you were looking for. I'm a little disappointed by it. For one, Cloris is great, but this really is beyond her capabilities. We all know what we are going to get from her next week. Kim, on the other hand, really did have potential. But then, there's the rub. She had potential, but she couldn't put it all together to deliver the performance I think she was capable of. Because of that, it's an understandable elimination.

Dear Tony,

I did not miss the concept of the show. I understand the Stars are suppose to be taught how to dance by the professionals. I also understand Cloris was a great actress. But right now she is acting like a clown and to me she is ruining the show. How many more weeks do we have to laugh AT her? How many more weeks is she going to call Carrie Ann a bitch for giving her a low score? She is the worse dancer on the show week after week. I thought the concept of the show was to teach the Stars how to dance. You tell me what Cloris is doing dancing or acting? And don't say both. I know it's not easy to get up in front of millions of people and do this. But give me a break, she's been getting up in front of millions for years. I say God Bless her at this age to be able to do this but enough is enough. SHE CAN'T DANCE FOR BEANS!!!!

Part of the fascination for me with this show is how much people invest emotionally in the premise of the competition. Reading the comments, many people seem truly angry about Kim leaving or Cloris staying. And then some people get angry at those people for caring, commenting that taking it seriously is stupid. The conclusion that I draw is that even though we all have different opinions, most of us assume that on some level people ought to have the same opinion. But wouldn't that be exceedingly dull? For this reason--that it both divides us and makes us crave unity--I think this show and others of its kind are not as 'stupid' as they might seem. A thing is only as deep or as shallow as your perception can make it.

I just can't believe that with all the people that WANT to be on DWTS that the producers have to put in ringers. By ringers, I mean Lance Bass, and Toni Braxton. This week, Lance did a few steps and then went into the hip hop stuff he used to do on stage. Len mentioned it, but Lance was scored too high for doing it. Hip Hop is not ballroom. I have seen Toni Braxton's show when she was at the Flamingo, the hotel gave me free tickets, and the sexy stuff and moves she uses in her dances is the same that she used on stage. So these two people should go and they should leave it to the true amatures. I was very disappointed in Kim Kardashian, I would have thought she could move better. Cloris may be funny, but it really is time for her to go, actually it is way past time. Hey, producers, use real amatures.

As far as I'm concerned, this is by far "Dancing With the Stars" dullest season. Very little talent here to even root for or to continue watching. Even the judges seem restless, and anxious to call it a night. It's difficult to watch Toni Braxton, seldom smiling and so tense, dancing with fearful anticipation that at any moment her heart will give out, or to see award-winning actress Cloris Leachman continually resort to puerile antics, rather than graciously admit that at 82, while she may be willing, her body simply cannot keep up. It's embarrassing and unpleasant to watch. I enjoy watching Rocco, but truthfully don't think he will improve to competitive status, and while MistyMay may be the queen of the volleyball court, her galumping about the dance floor leaves me cold. Lance and Lacy are a breath of fresh air, and while I love watching them, I feel it's a bit unfair to the other teams, that they won't abide by the rules of ballroom dancing. This is after all a competition with strict guidelines, and if they choose every week to look the other way, why bother to compete at all? So far, only Brooke and sometimes Warren have managed to spark an interest, but NONE of the competitors this season can even begin to come close to past seasons' thrilling contestants. Just very, very boring this time 'round folks. Yawn.

I agree with most of the other comments, Cloris has to go......she's really annoying and her staying just shows DWTS has become a comedy show rather than a dance competition. Also, the voting should be for the worst dancer. That would nullify a lot of the popularity voting and get rid of the junk quicker.

Kim Kardashian will only be missed for how hot she is. As a dancer, she was useless...just like as a person. All she is good for is arm candy, but she's quite good at that. She has no brain, a bad personality, no ability to move her body (ever seen her sex tape? I'd enjoy being with her, but she basically lies still the whole time) and no effort. If it was just about being hot, this show would be called "Dancing with the hotties"...though that may be entertaining.
