What to Watch Wednesday, Oct. 1

by Kim Potts, posted Oct 1st 2008 5:00AM
'Pushing Daisies'
(8PM, ABC) 2nd season premiere
What's a stressed-out girl to do when she's already got a head full of secrets and then learns yet another bit of juicy scoop that could prove life changing for those around her? Get thee to a nunnery!

That's the solution for Olive, who goes off to hang with some nuns when the burden of Ned and Chuck's (and now Aunt Lily's) secrets get to be too much.

Meanwhile, back at The Pie Hole, Ned's freaking out about Chuck's need to be independent, Emerson's indulging his love of pop-up books and Chuck goes undercover at a honey-based cosmetics company to find out who killed Betty's Bees' head Bee Girl. Hey, they don't call the show quirky for nothing.

'America's Got Talent'

(9PM, NBC) 3rd season finale
How can you not vote for a pair of classical violinists who call themselves Nuttin But Stringz? That's like not getting your hair styled at a place called Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow.

'Dirty Sexy Money'
(10PM, ABC) 2nd season premiere
Now this is how you kick off a season: Lucy Liu joins the cast as a new and formidable Darling nemesis, one member of the family bites the dust and someone else is arrested for murder.

'Friday Night Lights'
(9PM, DirecTV 101) 3rd season premiere
Those of you with DirecTV will be able to catch up with the Dillonites now. Those of us without DirecTV will have to wait 'til the show airs on NBC in February. Or on some illegal downloading Web site that we definitely will not be looking at tomorrow.

'Private Practice'
(9PM, ABC) 2nd season premiere
Here's hoping season two is an improvement on season one. We're not saying this 'Grey's Anatomy' spin-off was boring last season, but Taye Diggs -- Taye. Diggs. -- was on every week, and we still sometimes didn't even watch.

'Criss Angel Mindfreak'
(10PM, A&E) 4th season finale
Criss calls a do-over at the Silverton Casino in Vegas when he attempts a Houdini-ish escape from a locked box underwater, a stunt he had to abandon once before when it became too dangerous.

'Breaking Bad'
(8PM, AMC) marathon
'Malcolm in the Middle' dad Bryan Cranston nabbed a surprise Lead Actor Emmy for this drama about a high school chemistry teacher who resorts to desperate, dangerous and darkly comical measures to support his family when he's diagnosed with terminal cancer. AMC unspools all seven season one episodes tonight.

'Lewis Black's Root of All Evil'
(10:30PM, Comedy Central) 2nd season finale
Audrina, Lauren, Heidi and Brody will never be mistaken for rocket scientists, but comedians Paul F. Tompkins and Jerry Minor pit the two groups against each as they debate which is more evil, 'The Hills' or the aforementioned space engineers.

What's on tomorrow: The vice-presidential debate, 'Tim Gunn's Guide to Style' and more
