Seven Doctors to appear on Children in Need?

by Brad Trechak, posted Oct 13th 2008 10:40AM
Doctor WhoThis should be considered rumor until officially confirmed by the BBC, but apparently the seven living actors to play the character of the Doctor in Doctor Who are set to all appear together in this year's Children in Need special on the BBC.

While I would absolutely love it if this could actually happen, I have to question the veracity of this claim. At least the Telegraph isn't the Sun or I'd dismiss it outright. Tom Baker has historically had a problem with attending reunions (he wasn't in "The Five Doctors", but he did participate in a 1993 special "Dimensions In Time").
Christopher Eccleston left the role after a year out of fear of typecasting. Paul McGann only appeared as the Doctor once (and since there are rights issues with the television movie he filmed, would there be rights issues if another appearance were shown in the states?). If this does happen, will it be a "mini-episode" like Time Crash or will it simply be the actors making a plea to donate? What do you think?

Only seeing the bits that I download over here in the States, I can't speak to whether the bulk of CIN is "rubbish" or not. However, I can say will all certainty that Time Crash and "the Pudsey Connector" were the polar opposite of rubbish. Maybe CIN only gets it right with the new Doctor Who.

The important thing to remember is that like the vast majority of these type of things that are created for CIN - it will be short and rubbish, but hyped beyond belief.

"Children in Need" segments don't air in the U.S. so Paul McGann shouldn't be an issue. With Baker possibly returning in some capacity in the next series, and Eccelston having a growing movie career (he's going to be playing Destro in "G.I. Joe") - I think it's entirely possible that this could happen...and it would be brilliant!
