Gossip Girl wants you to vote for Obama

by Brad Trechak, posted Oct 14th 2008 6:38PM
Gossip GirlThere is definitely a generational gap with this presidential election, with the elderly favoring McCain and the youth favoring Obama. I'm generalizing of course, but it certainly seems like the campaign advertising is geared that way. One piece of evidence is two cast members of Gossip Girl appearing in an anti-McCain ad.

Granted, since the elderly isn't exactly the target demographic of Gossip Girl, I doubt anyone's grandma is going to stop voting for McCain because Blake Lively asked her to. I doubt said grandma even knows who Blake Lively is. At least the ad acknowledges that most of the demographic for the show aren't old enough to vote and therefore have to convince their parents. When have parents ever listened to their children with regards to their voting preferences?

The campaign is kind of reminiscent of Sarah Silverman's "Great Schlep" Obama ad. That one garnered a response by comedian Jackie Mason. I wonder if this advertisement will get a similar response. If so, will the response be done by the cast of Matlock?

Of course they are for obama, its a show about a morally corrupt set of individuals who only care about wealth and what mommy and daddy can do for them.

Well, I was gonna vote for the old guy and his brain-dead VP (who'd be right at home on Gossip Girl, I reckon), but if the cast members say I should vote for the smart guy who might actually bring something new to the table, then okay.

Wow, it's a sad day in America when people take their political advise from an actress on TV. Whatever happened to people thinking for themselves instead of having the media do it for them?

The difference between Obama and McCain is like the difference between Coke and Pepsi, ie. not much difference at all. Both men, despite their rhetoric, are bought and paid for members of the Washington political establishment. Don't think so? Go to the Open Secrets website and have a look at their major campaign donors. Don't listen to Gossip Girl. Do your homework!

Michael, I think you got the exchange wrong as well.

wii60, never said anything about Obama being the wrong choice. He just stated that tvsquad seems to want readers to vote for Obama.

jbcheese is saying a slur to non-Obama voters that they're 'hate-mongering backyard hicks'.

@JB Cheese "...hatemongering backwoods hicks." That would be you. Why is it that if someone has a different viewpoint than a liberal, they immediately resort to name calling? Not very tolerant, accepting or open-minded of you now is it?

really, someone advocating against a position is a backwards hick? i dont support either candidate but thats a fairly indefensible position to take. thats a "you're either with us or against us" position, (and if you're against us you are a backwards hick).

i'm all for people supporting whoever they want, just dont insult someone for having an opinion.
