Survivor: This Camp is Cursed

(S17E05) "Eat your rice, eat your rice." - Crystal to GC
Although they're having food shortage woes on Survivor Gabon, that rice doesn't look all that tasty to me, either. Sticky clumps of white rice cooked in dubious water just doesn't do the trick. I'd have to pretend the rice was chocolate. Then again, I'd be one of those looking at the show as a diet program. Heck, if GC doesn't want to eat his rice, I'm sure Randy will help him out. Since he performs at challenges, he deserves the food! And I don't really like Randy, but ...! Read on for my review of tonight's show.
Regarding Jeff Probst
Each year Jeff seems to be more critical of the castaways, albeit he's critical of the ones who need criticizing. He didn't do that so much in the early years of the show. The show wouldn't be the same without him, but I'm wondering if he's getting a bit too much into running interference. No, I don't want him to be a ChenBot. But he started tonight's show mocking the Fang tribe and ended it pretty much the same way. His Probsting questions at Tribal Council seem to be more steering the castaways all the time. Your opinion?
The rich get richer
It appears the Fang wins were flukes. Kota continues its winning once again, plus they just seem to do well all around. They put the net out, they get fish. They had to play around with one fish which gave off electrical charges. I've never seen a fish do that, but touched an eel some years back. If it's the same type of charge, it's a cool little buzz. It didn't keep them from cooking it up.
Randy has changed a lot since joining the new Kota tribe. My original objection to him was that he was always surly and a bit of a bully. He always did well on challenges, but he's shining with the new tribe. Even his personality is shining a bit. He's now a happy guy. And, he's definitely an asset to Kota.
The poor are just whacked
In the past when one tribe did exceedingly poor in challenges (and got wiped out), they at least attempted to work as a team at challenges. This bunch isn't even trying. Yeah, Ace is definitely trying in challenges, but they're voting off the strong players. Ace and Matty are the only real strong players left on the tribe. Crystal should be strong, but she runs hot and cold -- good in some challenges, horrible in others. GC is useless. Kenny is a bit limited in what he can do and it looks like he's going for the Courtney skeleton look.
About the only good thing that happened to them tonight was that they saw an elephant close and personal. It looked mad. I think it was chiding them for losing all the time. Although GC said, "That's how people get hurt," I thought it was more dangerous of him to go off all alone in the boat later on than the danger faced by Matty and Ace in the boat getting closer to the elephant. I'm sure they could paddle very quickly if it headed towards them in the water.
The challenges
Speaking of "whacked," Ace got nailed in the face during both challenges tonight. Maybe it was a test to see if he'd lose that English accent. You have noticed that he often doesn't seem to have it, right? Again, we had different challenges. No puzzles, yay!
Reward had them throwing fruit with an opposing tribe member trying to block it with a club. Fang started out good but then fizzled. I thought they just might have a win on their hands. But nope, after Ace got whomped in the face with a pineapple, his blocking wasn't quite so cocky. I don't quite get why they keep sending Sugar to Exile Island. But it's good for her. Since she has the hidden idol, she goes to her Sugar Shack to munch fruit and swim.
Then Immunity Challenge had them rolling big balls which looked like giant cat toys down a hill. Ace and Dan were the blindfolded "defenders" trying to block the opposing tribe's balls from scoring. Sugar and Randy were the "callers" telling them where to go for the block. Sugar was horrible at directing Ace, just giving up and shrugging at times. Ace had his own moment of stupidity when he followed Randy's shout, "Freeze, Ace!" D'oh! Oh, and Ace got whomped in the face with a shield. So Kota won both Reward and Immunity ... again.
Sneaks and a quitter
Argh, I hate when castaways go through the bags of others. I also hate when someone gets on the show, whines and fusses, and wants to quit. This Fang tribe is starting amp their annoyance factor with me. While Sugar was with Ace, the rest went through her bag and found the hidden idol. And then there's GC. Not since the first day running up the hill to snag individual immunity has he done anything! And now he wants to go home. Oh, boohoo. He knew what he was getting into when he went on the show. For him to whine about the backstabbing ... ridiculous. Out, damn spot!
But I wasn't stupid enough to fall for the editing which made it appear they were going to blindside Sugar or get her to bring out the idol. Yes, I was a bit nervous when she didn't use it at Tribal Council. But the editing pushed the idea too much. Sugar herself isn't really a big threat to them. They should dispose of the dead whiny wood. So they did. Bye-bye, GC. You took a spot on the show which could have gone to someone who would actually play the game.
