Shatner vs. Takei! - VIDEO

William ShatnerHave you been keeping track of The Shatner Project? It's a series of videos that Boston Legal star William Shatner has been doing with his daughter Liz. In one he talked about not being in the new Star Trek flick, and in the latest he goes off on being hated by former costar George Takei.

I'm not an expert on psychology, but when the guy uses words to describe Takei such as "sad," "a poor man," that he has a "sickness" and a "psychosis," and that he should "shut up," I'm going to assume that they're not on each other's AIM buddy list.

Takei has had a problem with Shatner since the early Trek days (something to do with Shatner's ego and wanting close-ups and not giving other stars more screen time), and most recently Takei didn't invite Shatner to his wedding to Brad (even though he did invite Leonard Nimoy, Nichelle Nichols, and Walter Koenig). Shatner feels sorry for the decades-long feud and doesn't understand it, but he's really snarky about it.

There should be a Celebrity Deathmatch between these two, or at the very least get them in the same house on a celebrity Big Brother.

This video is Shatner eating a burger off the floor. Idiotic publicity stunt.

Wow, shatner is an ass. Even if Takei did snub him for his wedding, so what? It's Takei's wedding. He can damn well invite who he wants to.

And vote a big fat NO on prop 8.

Chris Doohan wrote on his blog a few years ago that Shatner and his father, James Doohan made up after years of feuding, but at the last minute and the last time they saw each other, William Shatner did a terrible thing to Doohan.

It was the last day of the "Beam me up, Scotty, one last time" convention at the Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood, when all the original Star Trek Stars were to get up on stage for the last time. Although James was ill, he still had his wits about him and was looking forward to this event.

Chris wrote that it was about 5 minutes before the big event, when he heard Shatner (who was right behind Chris, talking to Nimoy) say "I don't want to deal with all this Alzheimer's crap anymore, I'm outta here" (Mr. Doohan had the early stages of the disease).

Well, he left and without even saying goodbye to his old pal (I use that term lightly). The crowd of hundred paid good money to see this final event, but Shatner was gone. It was said by the promoter of the event, Sky Conway, that Shatner was mad because he wanted to go on stage earlier in the day with Neil Armstrong, but he refused (Mr. Armstrong is a bit stage shy). It should be known that Leonard Nimoy left too. There was no comment about that mystery.

A number of things that I've read from Canadian actors who knew Shatner before he went to Hollywood indicates that Shatner always had a big ego and was resented for it. Very few - notably the late Bruno Gerussi - had much good to say about him. Certainly it would seem to be true in his relationship with James Doohan (who was the bigger star in Canadian TV in the '50s) and most of his Star Trek colleagues have the same sort of feelings towards the man. The snarkiness of Shatner's attitude to Takei is part of this. He wants to be the most important person in the room and resents attention paid to others.

Bill Shatner is a pompous hog. Everybody knows it, and he wouldn't even recognize the high road, let alone take it.

I think Takei did that roast so he could finally say all the stuff he wanted to say to Shatner. As I recall, Shatner came in on a horse, and Takei said something like, "I finally get to say what I've been waiting to say all these years: f**k you and the horse you rode in on."

Also, the news reports say that Takei *DID* invite Shatner, but he never RSVPd. That seems to be his MO lately: ignore invitations (Takei's wedding and the new Star Trek movie) and then bitch about how he didn't get invited.

Ditto, Jimmy. I thought the same thing.

Takei participated in the Shatner roast on Comedy Central a couple years ago. He seemed like a good sport.
