What does everyone think of the new Damages promo? - VIDEO

Glenn Close stars in FX's 'Damages.'
A few days ago I mentioned that both Nip/Tuck and Damages were returning after the New Year, but no premiere dates were known yet. However, FX has now announced that the highly anticipated second season of the Glenn Close legal thriller will make its sophomore debut on Wednesday, January 7th at 10PM. The network has been running ads for Nip/Tuck for a few weeks now, but this past weekend they released the first of what I'm sure will be many new promos for Damages. I've got a bit of an issue with it though.

My problem? It looks an awful lot like a promo for Nip/Tuck! The first season of Damages was marked by a, for lack of better phrasing, "creative darkness." The Emmy-winning first season was tense and shadowy, full of twists in every episode. Based on this latest promo, a newcomer might be inclined to think that the show is far more "glitzy" than it actually is. Who knows, maybe the direction of the show has changed. I admit that it seems like a daunting challenge to re-create the feel of season one, especially factoring in the past/present storytelling technique that was employed. Fans of the show, what do you think? Does this promo accurately represent the tone of Damages? (Spoiler warning to those new to the show - the promo gives away a significant season one plot point.)

Also, as an added bonus, I've yet to see any promotional shots released from FX from season two, but while looking for a site that had the promo available to embed, I stumbled on to this shot here. Not sure how they came up with it, but it looks like Patty Hewes is going to be embroiled in a case with Claire Maddox (Marcia Gay Harden) in the new season.

What do I think about it? I think Rose Byrne is hot, that's what!

And I like that they're keeping up the motif of her emerging from an elevator -- a motif started in the first few seconds of the first season.

Well from what I read with the sides of the show it will still play with the tempo of flashbacks and flash forwards. The producers mentioned past and future scenes will be more understandable to the viewer and not as confusing.
I find this as a slick marketing promo and that's all. The show will be the same organic well written and acted show we all love. As Glenn Close said on "The Rachael Ray Show" October 21st the new season is even better!

I think its great it really seems to flow Ellens rage for what patty tried to do to her to the viewer also I heard that the guy who played the Frobisher's lawyer will be back but he's dead so I think there's still room for flashbacks but I don't think the story will rely on them like it did in season 1. I think the new season will be good. Glenn Close has plenty of money I don't think she would risk her reputation if the new season wasn't good.

It's made to attract new viewers, they know that they already have the old ones... :) can't wait!!!
I don't think that they can pull the flashbacks anymore, that did go well with the story at that point (and maybe because they thought that they will have only one season), but doesn't make sense now. Just my thought...

i saw the promo last week on SNL and totally flipped out. it looked pretty cool and edgy, in the realm of other FX promos.

I thought it did well at promoting the second season--a recap of first, then see what happens now! Yes, it did promote the sexy, but that's what people tend to go for. The voiceover denotes the dark, sinister side; especially against the scenes of beauty. I thought it was great! Can't wait for it to come back.

I think it looks good and they're just using a different style to attract viewers. However, I just can't get over the mask that Glenn Close has turned her face into . . .
