Desperate Housewives: What More Do I Need

(S05E07) "Knock it off!" - Gaby to a creepy, clingy and too generous Virginia
Last week, I mentioned how I thought the arrival of Gail O'Grady, Frances Conroy and Lily Tomlin spiced things up on Wisteria Lane. This week, they definitely brought on new spice because the three storylines got more complex and twisted. Sometimes, TV series push guest stars down our throats for sake of ratings (see Britney Spears on How I Met Your Mother for a recent example). However, this is not the case with the three actresses guesting on Desperate Housewives. Tomlin is especially a delight to see in her role as McCluskey's sister and Conroy, as I've mentioned last week, finally gives the Solises a reason to still get air time.
I really thought that we would have to spend the entire episode having Tom and Lynette be against one another and I was not looking forward to it as we've been through this with the couple time and time again. I was pleasantly surprise to have Lynette find out the truth five minutes in.
Porter seems to really be in love with Anne. Then again, as Lynette told him, he doesn't know what real love is yet. I don't know what to think about Anne yet and I think next week's episode will help me decide. Is she really in love with Porter because he gives her something her husband doesn't? Or is she using him to get back at her husband? And is she really pregnant? I'm really curious to see where Porter and Anne are heading to. Are they only doing a quickie trip to have her get an abortion or are they leaving town to start a life together? No matter the answer, you can bet Lynette won't be happy and I'm pretty sure she'll be angrier and more fierce than what she showed in the restroom scene with Anne (see picture above).
Virginia. Virginia. Virginia. She reminds me of Eve Tingle, the evil and cruel teacher in Teaching Mrs. Tingle. I wonder what Katie Holmes and her friends would do to her if they could enter her luxurious mansion. But since she is a bit like Eve Tingle, Virginia would probably give them a run for their money. Just look at what she did to Carlos. He will more than likely lose his job at the country club because of her. It wouldn't be surprising to have Virginia offer him to call the country club back if Carlos and Gaby continue to be her "friends." I'm pretty sure we haven't see the worst of Virginia yet. This is another storyline that can only end badly. Dr. Heller better make room for a few sessions with Virginia because she'll probably deserve the "criminally insane" label by the time this storyline is over.
Other tidbits of interest:
- "Can I Irish that for you?" - Roberta to McCluskey. Roberta rocks and offers us some nice comic relief. It's fun to see the sisters work the case together. Good thing Roberta is resourceful and isn't much afraid of anything because I believe she may be the key in solving Dave's case.
- It was cute to see Susan and Jackson go from date #1 to date #4. The "let's get to know one another before sex" plan allowed us to get to know Jackson better and I believe this will help us accept him more as a real love interest for Susan. That painting of Susan was quite troubling. Kudos for the artist who painted the prop painting because that look was definitely haunting. This painting and the fact that Jackson proved her knows Susan will probably have her agree to have him move in sooner rather than later.
- I'm glad Orson and Bree are staying together and that their partnership works well at work and in their home. It was fun to see them watch Kat and Mike going at it in the kitchen. I get why Bree told Katherine to be cautious with her relationship with Mike but I'm with Katherine on this one. Mike and Katherine are both single and they enjoy one another. However, they should tell Susan about their relationship before she learns from someone else (or by seeing the video on YouTube... who knows if Charlie didn't keep a copy?).
- It'll be interesting to see what Dr. Heller will do once in Fairview. Will he try to secretly meet Dave and tell him to back off or else (maybe going to an asylum)? Or will he spill out Dave's secret to everyone on Wisteria Lane?
So far, I'm enjoying the November Sweeps episodes of Desperate Housewives a lot. And you? Let your voice be heard in our poll below or in comments.
