Desperate Housewives: What More Do I Need

Desperate Housewives
(S05E07) "Knock it off!" - Gaby to a creepy, clingy and too generous Virginia

Last week
, I mentioned how I thought the arrival of Gail O'Grady, Frances Conroy and Lily Tomlin spiced things up on Wisteria Lane. This week, they definitely brought on new spice because the three storylines got more complex and twisted. Sometimes, TV series push guest stars down our throats for sake of ratings (see Britney Spears on How I Met Your Mother for a recent example). However, this is not the case with the three actresses guesting on Desperate Housewives. Tomlin is especially a delight to see in her role as McCluskey's sister and Conroy, as I've mentioned last week, finally gives the Solises a reason to still get air time.

I really thought that we would have to spend the entire episode having Tom and Lynette be against one another and I was not looking forward to it as we've been through this with the couple time and time again. I was pleasantly surprise to have Lynette find out the truth five minutes in.

Porter seems to really be in love with Anne. Then again, as Lynette told him, he doesn't know what real love is yet. I don't know what to think about Anne yet and I think next week's episode will help me decide. Is she really in love with Porter because he gives her something her husband doesn't? Or is she using him to get back at her husband? And is she really pregnant? I'm really curious to see where Porter and Anne are heading to. Are they only doing a quickie trip to have her get an abortion or are they leaving town to start a life together? No matter the answer, you can bet Lynette won't be happy and I'm pretty sure she'll be angrier and more fierce than what she showed in the restroom scene with Anne (see picture above).

Virginia. Virginia. Virginia. She reminds me of Eve Tingle, the evil and cruel teacher in Teaching Mrs. Tingle. I wonder what Katie Holmes and her friends would do to her if they could enter her luxurious mansion. But since she is a bit like Eve Tingle, Virginia would probably give them a run for their money. Just look at what she did to Carlos. He will more than likely lose his job at the country club because of her. It wouldn't be surprising to have Virginia offer him to call the country club back if Carlos and Gaby continue to be her "friends." I'm pretty sure we haven't see the worst of Virginia yet. This is another storyline that can only end badly. Dr. Heller better make room for a few sessions with Virginia because she'll probably deserve the "criminally insane" label by the time this storyline is over.

Other tidbits of interest:

  • "Can I Irish that for you?" - Roberta to McCluskey. Roberta rocks and offers us some nice comic relief. It's fun to see the sisters work the case together. Good thing Roberta is resourceful and isn't much afraid of anything because I believe she may be the key in solving Dave's case.
  • It was cute to see Susan and Jackson go from date #1 to date #4. The "let's get to know one another before sex" plan allowed us to get to know Jackson better and I believe this will help us accept him more as a real love interest for Susan. That painting of Susan was quite troubling. Kudos for the artist who painted the prop painting because that look was definitely haunting. This painting and the fact that Jackson proved her knows Susan will probably have her agree to have him move in sooner rather than later.
  • I'm glad Orson and Bree are staying together and that their partnership works well at work and in their home. It was fun to see them watch Kat and Mike going at it in the kitchen. I get why Bree told Katherine to be cautious with her relationship with Mike but I'm with Katherine on this one. Mike and Katherine are both single and they enjoy one another. However, they should tell Susan about their relationship before she learns from someone else (or by seeing the video on YouTube... who knows if Charlie didn't keep a copy?).
  • It'll be interesting to see what Dr. Heller will do once in Fairview. Will he try to secretly meet Dave and tell him to back off or else (maybe going to an asylum)? Or will he spill out Dave's secret to everyone on Wisteria Lane?

So far, I'm enjoying the November Sweeps episodes of Desperate Housewives a lot. And you? Let your voice be heard in our poll below or in comments.

I am consistently impressed with the writing on this show, it is just magical. I am upset with Mike, him and Susan are like Ross and Rachel they should be together. I want to know where Julie is, they have not spoken of her, and they basically have her as non existent. I can't wait to see what else explodes on Wisteria Lane!

I'm enjoying the new season, but I am looking forward to Carlos getting his sight back. This is DH after all, so you know it's coming.

How would that work exactly ? Getting his sight back ?

Blindness is not like the flue.

Really enjoy the episode.

In reply to Charli this is, essentially, a soap. Virginia will offer it him back using all her wealth (and the crack team of deblinder doctors that obviously comes with) if she legally adopts the whole family.

I'm sorry, while I am really enjoying the show this season, I am having trouble with Bree and Orson's newfound relationship. I found the show where he forced her to make him a roast and she had tears running down her cheeks to be very haunting. There was something almost sinister, how did they get from there to where they are right now?

Well he was feeling helpless and ignored. He's not helpless or ignored now.

I was thinking the same exact thing- how did they jump from Orson asking for a divorce to being so in sync with each other? it just does not add up. But on the other hand, they are exactly the kind of people who would not like to talk about anything "ugly" and go on pretending everything is fine on the outside while things are far from perfect on the inside- that is the essence of the character of Bree van de Kamp, she has been that way since episode one, the perfect exterior hiding a lot of "dirty laundry" on the inside.

What a great episode last night! Def a lot of shocking news last night!!!! I thought the must funniest part is the sex tape where you think it was Bree and Orson and turns out to be Katherine and Mike!

I personally want to know what Orsen and Bree did with the Olive Oil. That line was the funniest of the night and so overlooked.

DH has really amped it up, starting last season. This season is even better. I was sure their writers would lose steam before the Grey's team(Heroes too), man was I wrong about that one.

A+ for the awesome writing and great performances(except for the, at times, hammy Hatcher).

I did not watch DH for the last two years. Until the season finale of last year, because I heard about the twist. THIS is the show I loved watching. The show I left seems to be gone. Note to writers: It can be done! You can bring a show back for a lost viewer. Perhaps the scribes of Heroes may be listening. But it jumped too soon. I watched DH for a while before I lost interest. Now I am totally back in; and loving every minute of it.
