Tons of changes coming to Knight Rider

by Bob Sassone, posted Nov 10th 2008 9:58AM
Knight RiderEverything about the new Knight Rider is about to change.

Well, OK, almost everything. It's not like they're going to get rid of the car and change the show to a musical/variety hour featuring dancers and puppets. But they are getting rid of three of the stars of the show and changing the plot around to be more like the old version of the show.

Stars Bruce Davison, Sydney Tamiia Poitier, and Yancey Arias will no longer be on the show after the first 13 episodes. Also, the producers are getting rid of the stories where our hero fights professional bad guys and instead goes around and helps everyday Joes (plumbers and otherwise). Supposedly this will bring the show more in line with the other dramas on the NBC Wednesday lineup, Life and Law and Order. Though I don't think either of those shows feature a talking car.

The cringe-inducing piece of news is that they plan to do more "stunt-casting." Big name guest stars can be OK, but it's odd to announce "yes, now we are going to do more stunt-casting."

If they really want to make the show more like the old one they should bring back William Daniels.

I agree. The current show needs major improvements. The acting is poor, the storylines are very poor, I'm missing all the driving stunts and please no more CG!!!
Even the background looks fake when they are having a conversation in the car. We just need a lot less high tech balony and a lot more pure human/car action.
Thank you

The phrase "Lipstick on a Pig" from the political season comes to mind.

YES! Make it more like the old show.

The old show's off the air. Make this one just like that.

Lets give the producers a second chance. Anything is better than what's on the air now. The new KR can be a good show...maybe.

Cast shake-up indeed. I don't get it, but I suppose if he's helping out Everyman, then he doesn't need the quasi-governmental folks to back him. Though I dunno how they're gonna get rid of Bruce Davison's character so easily.

Sigh, I should have saved my KITT magnet for when the show went to hell, instead of using it last week:

Also, you're right, who the heck actually goes out there and says, hey, we're going to stunt-cast from now on. Though, i did see a commercial for one of the Landos on USA (I think), how *all* of their guest stars will are Emmy-nommed.

Really? And what kind of casting nightmare is that?

Oh, this is also assuming that the show wasn't already in hell anyway. ;-)

They should get rid of the female lead too. She is so wooden and has no chemistry whatsoever with the male lead. At least Davison added some acting gravitas to the show.

Software upgrades can always go awry, so I'm sure they have a "prototype" of KITT's OS in storage. William Daniels ahoy!

They should have the main characters all go out with a bang. The bad guys shoot a rocket propelled grenade at KITT with all of them inside, and boom, they're all dead.

Couldn't happen to a crappier show.
