The Big Bang Theory: The Panty Piņata Polarization

What I love about Big Bang Theory, is that every time you're watching it and thinking, "yes, they're geeks. Thanks Chuck Lorre, I get it," they give you a beautiful gift: this week, that gift was Klingon Boggle. Who knew that the Yiddish word for a tasty meat dumpling was so close to the Klingon word for a tasty Klingon dumpling? I think this show is making me smarter.

While I love Klingon Boggle, I'm not so in love with the main plot from this week: the war between Sheldon and Penny. Don't get me wrong; I love the idea of a war between these two. Their interaction is my favorite part of the show. What I don't like is that the premise was flawed. There was nothing that happened in this episode that was even slightly out of character for Sheldon, yet Penny was constantly surprised by his behavior. I mean, come on, Penny. You've known this guy for over a year. Are you really that shocked that he doesn't want you to touch his food?

Yes, everyone does love LOLcats, but you can't honestly think that Sheldon would have time for such frivolity. And his seat? The fact that the left side of the couch is Sheldon's seat has been brought up in several previous episodes. I'm pretty sure you learned back in season one that sitting in his seat does not fly, yet you suddenly come down with amnesia regarding this fact. Although, in Penny's defense, I will say that as someone who watches way too much Top Model, that shit will make you dumber.

Speaking of Top Model, I love how Wolowitz and Koothrappali get sucked into this previously unknown world of reality competition modeling shows. Props to using NORAD to find the house in which all of the future Mrs. Wolowitzes live. I'm not sure how much the audience for BBT and Top Model overlap, but for those of you who don't haven't yet discovered the pleasure of watching a house full of models-in-training "live together, and shower together, and have naked pillow fights," I should point out that the two ladies who answer the door at the house are Analeigh and Samantha, two contestants on the current season of America's Next Top Model. Samantha's kind of awesome, and I'm sorry they didn't give her any lines.

Some of my favorite lines from the episode:

Wolowitz: "Oh look, there's the future Mrs. Wolowitz. Wait, wait! That's the future Mrs. Wolowitz. With her head in the lap of, what a coincidence; it's the future Mrs. Wolowitz."
Leonard: "Yeah, and they can all move in with you and your mother... the current Mrs. Wolowitz."

"Oh come on, everybody loves LOLcats! They're cute and they can't spell, 'cause they're cats." --Penny

Wolowitz: "Well, my fellow Americans, before this year is out, we'll put a Wolowitz on one of America's top models."
Koothrappali: "And a large number of people will believe it never happened."

"You don't want to get into it with Sheldon. The guy's one lab accident away from being a super villain." --Leonard

"When you understand the laws of physics, Penny, anything is possible. And may I add, muah ha ha." --Sheldon

"Yeah, I really don't think this is the type of thing Jesus concerns himself with. No, you're right. I really don't know what Jesus thinks about." --Sheldon

For some stupid reason, two local stations (one being our CBS affiliate) broadcast ESPN Monday Night Football even if as it was playing on ESPN already. I realize some people STILL don't have cable, but no contingencies were even made for an alternate broadcast of the show. It blows cuz this is one of the few network shows I try to never miss. And with no way to watch the episode posted like other networks do, they've forced my hand to hit a torrent site.

I haven't even so much as saw a commercial for ANTM in years, but I was surprised to hear that the two girls that answered the door were actually on ANTM, as they were actually quite attractive.

That must be a new thing they're trying out this season on ANTM, actually having attractive women on there.

Does anyone know ANY legal place to find these episodes online? I checked Hulu, Fancast, and of course CBS. What's the logic here? I didn't believe that there actually WERE still network shows that weren't available to watch online. "The Office" is available almost everywhere, and their DVD sets still sell. Is the concern about future syndication?

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere (??prev TVS post???) that CBS does not have the digital broadcast rights to BBT so that's why it's not available on their website or iTunes or ...

I'd have to agree. She knows the rules...well, some of them.

She keeps challenging them because they go too far. We all have our obsessive compulsive tendencies...I always turn over those upside-down ketchup bottles Heinz sells when people put them right-side up, for example and people have fought me over it.

We're seeing that the others probably have challenged Sheldon over the years, and have decided it is easier not to. I'd be amused to see the online course though as online content.

Penny seems to naively hope she can inject some change into the group.

I don't think that she was surprised, but that it had reached the point where she couldn't take it anymore and that SOMEONE needed to stand up to him.

Anyone else think these two are going to hook up somehwere down the road? I was just waiting for their fight to turn into a passionate kiss. I hope it never happens, becausr that would kill the show, but I think they would be good together.

I don't think it's so much that Penny didn't know better, but more that she thought that the guys were being wusses (shocker) and that it wasn't that big a deal to stand up to Sheldon...

This episode had it's funny moments, like most of the quotes posted. However, I have to say that I hate Sheldon. He is the biggest prick and his OCD about EVERYTHING is too much. If I were part of this group, I would have killed him long ago. When he and Penny were looking out the window at her laundry, I was hoping she would push him. Why are any of them friends with him?
Oh, and it's sad that Penny didn't have anything better to do at 8:15 on a Saturday night than torture Sheldon.

Dave,

I figured that even though Penny may have had plenty of other things to do on a Saturday night, she blew them off JUST to mess with Sheldon :)

I like the episode! For once someone stood up to Sheldon, instead of cowering down to him. The scene in at the Cheesecake factory was great, and Penny knocking on the door just like Sheldon, funny!
