Are there any clues in that new Lost poster?

by Isabelle Carreau, posted Nov 20th 2008 4:28PM
LostWhen the Lost season 4 poster was released last season, I took a few minutes to analyze it with you and try to extract clues and spoilers from it. The biggest clues we found in that poster was the skyline of a city reflecting on the water and the number 6, also in the water. Both foreshadowed the Oceanic 6 getting off the island.

It's time to resume our investigation, this time, with the season 5 official poster (see right, bigger version after the jump) which I've found at DocArzt's Lost Blog.

Lost
The "Destiny calls" line on top of the poster makes me think that this has to do with the Oceanic 6 as well as Ben and Desmond needing to get back to the island to make everything go right. If you've been keeping up with Lost spoilers, we've known for a while that Season 5 will be about why the Oceanic 6 need to get back to the island. Destiny is calling them!

The poster is divided in two: the city and the island. On the city side, we have the Oceanic 6, minus Aaron who is probably not there because he is not a series regular, with Ben and Desmond who also need to return to the island. On the island side, we have three "boaties," I assume all three are series regulars this season, along with Sawyer and Locke. In case you are wondering why Claire or Jin are not shown on the island side of the poster, Claire is said to not be appearing on the show this season (but will in Season 6) and Jin's fate is still up in the air (did he die in the explosion or not?) so putting him on the poster would reveal his fate. I guess this split in two of the poster is just to show that the cast will be divided for most, if not all, of the season as the Oceanic 6+2 are trying to get back to the island.

I know I need new glasses but my eyes don't catch any other clues. Do you see hidden clues and hints in this Lost season 6 poster? What do you think of the poster? Share your findings and thoughts in comments below!

Destiny calls for the unlucky 13. If they don't get back together, they'll have a blast.

Locke is on the poster because, even though he is dead, we still need to see the events that led up to his death and that may take all season to find out (through flashbacks and such).

Wow I am a big Lost fan and love theorizing but some of you are just out of your minds. You are reading into...nothing. It's a poster.

Based on what they have filmed so far, I've given up trying to take a gander at even generalizing what is going on. It's absolutely insane and have no clue how they will edit it all. Put it this way, I think they could spend this whole season just on what is going on ON the island and what those there are experiencing. Forget the O6 lol.

quote jffm
"One other very noticeable thing I'm surprised no one has mentioned yet is the mist ("smoke"?) that is hovering at about knee level across the width of the poster over both groups"

maybe im just seeing things... but on that mist over everyone knees seems to be what looks like an "S" or a "swan" looking smoke.. between faraday and the other kid, also between kate and sayid

There is definitely a huge contrast of light between the two sides. The left side is strikingly dark compared to light emanating from the right. This theme coincides with the play of light and dark throughout all the seasons (starting from season one with Locke & Walt's conversation over backgammon).

But what does it mean? Perhaps how we perceive our good and bad characters will change dramatically - having some of our beloved goodies on the left side (i.e. Hurley, Desmond, etc.) become very very dark and some of the characters with questionable motives (i.e. Charlotte) turn out to be on the side of good.

Also, each side has only one person standing in the forefront. Jack, the leader of the Dark, and Sawyer, the leader of the Light.

Further, we have Locke and Ben in the same positions on each side. As we know, Ben is the old link to the island and Locke is the new. Looks like Ben will be Jack's guide and Locke may very well be Sawyers.

I think that a previous observation that there is a space left for someone else on the side of Light is very perceptive. There is a key player on the side of Light that has yet to reveal themselves.

Whatever the result I am so excited for this season to finally start soon. The world has been an empty place since Lost has been gone!

Some people pointed out the "4" and the "6" - I see in clouds, to the right of the "T", a disembodied skull face.

I also find it interesting who's looking where. Kate and Sawyer are supposed to be looking at each other. Jack and Juliet are looking in the same direction together. Everyone else is looking face-on - except Hurley who appears to be watching Jack- and Miles, who is studying Daniel.

Clothing colors seems to be interesting choices too- nearly everyone is wearing dark clothing except Daniel, wearing a bright white shirt (with tie), Charlotte wearing the eye-catching orange shirt, Locke with the spiffy green pants and Desmond with the grey shirt partially broken out of dark clothing.

Note Kate's hands- she looks like she's supporting her arm. Yet Locke and Juliet have struck very assertive, arms-folded poses, facing each other. I suspect we'll see a lot of conflict between these two in the coming season.

And what's with the pocket on Locke's pants- it looks like something shining or bulging. Much like Sayid's shoe, strange glare there.

The strange fog around the character's knees also is a bit out of place. What's up with that?

I assume that Walt has to join them if they go back to the island?
