Barbara Walters snags the Obamas for a sit down
You know that Barbara Walters-Rosie O'Donnell dust up this week with the two former View co-stars trading comments/insults about the sins of the past? Well, it smelled to me of a publicity stunt and now I'm convinced of it. Turns out both divas will be having TV specials on Wednesday night, November 26. That's tomorrow night. Rosie Live will air at 8 o'clock on NBC.
Meanwhile, Barbara Walters has snagged Barack and Michelle Obama for a one-hour news special to air at 10 o'clock on ABC on November 26. What a coincidence!
If there were any real truth to the hatred, don't you think Walters would have wanted her hour to go head to head with Rosie? ABC has no loyalty to Pushing Daisies at 8, so I don't think that would have been a hard sell.
So, my cynical self sees this as TV opportunism. Both ladies have garnered lots of attention and now their shows, presumably, will benefit.
For Barbara Walters, the Obama get is important. It shows ABC she still has the clout to land the biggest names in the news, and the President-elect and future First Lady, are that. Their appearance on 60 Minutes was a ratings boon to the CBS news magazine. Barbara will be talking about the transition, moving into the White House, the Obama family and even some hard news like the economy and foreign policy.
ABC will promote/spread out the Obama-vision all day on Wednesday with clips of the interview airing on Good Morning America, the nightly news and Nightline. What, no Jimmy Kimmel?
