What Annie is thankful for

by Annie Wu, posted Nov 27th 2008 5:06PM
Tina and AlecWait, what? It's Thanksgiving? Already? Again? This doesn't seem right, as I still haven't washed last year's turkey grease from my television (how I eat my dinner is nobody's business but mine). Well, I guess it's time to think about the lovely things we have and give thanks to whatever vengeful supernatural entity is in charge of television. Thank you for...

30 Rock: The guest stars are getting a little exhausting at this point, but I still love each and every character that is on that show. I am especially thankful for all the Tracy Jordan quotes. Yes, I will live every week like it's Shark Week.

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert:
Ahh, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report made my 2008. Within the last nine months, I have gone from seeing neither of these shows in person to attending tapings three times, each in every different contexts (TCR once during the strike, once on the road in Philadelphia; TDS after the strike). Also, I am very pleased that I got to hear the big announcement about Barack Obama from Jon Stewart. It just made sense to me. Also, also, I am extra-pleased that I got to dance with Mr. Colbert in February, even if it meant going into a bizarre, awesome-overload coma that lasted about four days afterward.

Olympics worth watching: This was the first time I had ever been truly excited about the Olympics, and it felt good. Maybe it was a combination of China's totally insane Opening Ceremonies and Michael Phelps's other-worldly powers, or maybe it was because I would have been miserable with nothing else on the TV, but it the Olympics were a lot of fun to watch this year.

The Venture Bros. Shirt Club:
My wardrobe at least doubled in its levels of super-geekiness, thanks to this year's Venture Bros. Shirt Club. In case you missed it, with every new episode of VB last season, the minds behind the show released a special, limited edition tee to celebrate it. It was a fun idea and I'm glad I got to be a part of it. I mean, someone stole my Guild of Calamitous Intent shirt later (seriously, how does that even happen?) but I'm still extra-happy about my other shirts. And side-note, but super-sad Circuit City is practically giving away the first and second season DVDs for $12.99. That is both DVDs. Together. Are you still reading this? Go buy the DVDs!

The Internet: Oh, if I had to pick only one series of tubes to be thankful for, it would be this series of tubes. Thanks, online video. Thanks, original content (hello, Dr. Horrible). Thanks, bloggers. Thanks, fellow fans. And of course, thanks, readers! Have I mentioned that your hair looks lovely today?

Whatever happened to your reviews of the Daily Show? That Mario Lopez bit a couple weeks back was definitely Annie Wu material.

The Olympics are always boring, but otherwise that's a good list.
