Rosie does not equal ratings - VIDEO

by Brad Trechak, posted Nov 28th 2008 10:33AM
Rosie LiveIt looks like Rosie Live has been declared dead. Her attempt at reviving the variety show format tied for the lowest-rated program of the evening.

Frankly, I don't think it's necessarily a death-knell for the format so much as the host. Rosie's highly-publicized feuds have certainly soured me on watching any sort of television program hosted by her.

In comparison, Stephen Colbert's A Colbert Christmas pretty much embraced the variety show format (with enough changes to keep it modern and interesting) and it was great entertainment. Granted, cable stations don't have the ratings requirements of network and the entire special was pretty much an attempt to sell the DVD (in a humorous, non-annoying fashion). If some other Broadway-style celebrity hosted the same show, I'm willing to bet ratings would have been higher.

I've embedded a video from Rosie Live after the jump, guest-starring Alec Baldwin. I'll let you folks judge for yourselves whether or not Rosie's variety show is cringe-worthy or simply unappreciated.

I simply refuse to reward Rosie for shoving her life and lifestyle down my throat every time a microphone is in front of her face.

I know she must be a great mom and a caring person, but really. I don't care.

Apparently she has more of a problem with her "gayness" than I do. She has to keep bringing it up like she is just daring someone to react to it.

Go back to the way you were. Before Donald, The View and all of the controversy.

In short... Shut Up and ACT.

I love Stephen Colbert but that Christmas Special was unbearable.

Rosie is bad enough, but Kathy Griffin is the most annoying person on TV.

Yeesh... this was difficult to watch. I like Rosie. I think she's funny; a brilliant comic talent. But this was just unpleasant and unsettling. Liza Minelli has, finally, morphed into Judy Garland full-force. So scary. I thought the pace, tempo, composition of the show was just strange; I didn't know whether it was supposed to be like that, or if they were just making it up as they went along. :(

Hey, as long as you were going to embed something, why couldn't it have been Jane Krakowski's product placement dance? Gotta admit, no one can place products like Jane...

This show was a train wreck from the start. Folks in NBC's programming must be clueless.

Rosie as a personality is fine and she could even host a variety hour but there was too much of her and her marginal musical ability way too soon to start such a show.

Better they opened with a big Broadway number with true Broadway stars and top notch talent. The NBC guest appearances of Alex and Conan were gratuitous at best. And Liza should stay in the rest home for washed up divas.

This show doesn't deserve another showing at this level of amateur self indulgence.

Resurrect Ed Sullivan to show them how its done.

I thought the only funny joke of the entire show was when Alec Baldwin spoke loudly into her cleavage, and she said something to the effect of "I can't tell you people how good that feels...and quite frankly leaves me a little bit confused." And that was at the beginning of the show.

I don't think these ratings speak to the host or the format, just the craptastic network it was offered on. nbc does nothing but last place, outside of football.
