Gossip Girl: It's a Wonderful Lie

Gossip Girl(S02E12) "I'm leaving him." - Lily

If you are keeping up with Gossip Girl spoilers like me, the shocking ending of "It's a Wonderful Lie" was not surprising and you know what will happen next week (don't worry, I won't spoil the fun here for those of you able to stay away from spoilers). Even if I knew what was coming, that didn't make me enjoy the episode and its ending less. I actually enjoyed the episode mostly because I've been a Rufus/Lily shipper since the pilot episode of The CW series. The highlight of the episode was when Rufus told Lily why he let her marry Bart. Come to think of it, the real highlight for me was probably that phone call Lily received at the end of the episode. Don't you agree?

Like him or not, Bart Bass is a great nemesis and an interesting character. All series need a character more evil than the others, and Bart is Gossip Girl's Prince of Darkness. For a minute or two at the beginning of the episode, Bart did seem to genuinely want to change and save his marriage. But old habits are hard to get rid of, especially if you are a TV character, so when he learns that his marriage is more than likely definitely over, Bart accepts to listen to what his PI has to say.

I wonder what happened between Bart telling his PI to spill the beans and the accident? Did the chauffeur overhear what the PI said about Lily (you know that the dirt he discovered was more than likely about why Lily went into the institution) and was so shocked by the reveal that he lost control of the car? Or did Bart get furious after hearing the gossip, ordered his driver to speed so to arrive at the ball sooner rather than later which led to a car crash? Or maybe it was an accident, nothing more to it? Unless there's some sort of conspiracy and someone orchestrated the accident to take Bart out of the equation? What do you think? Share your theory with us in comments below.

As I've said before, I'm a Rufus/Lily shipper. I want them to end up together and live happily ever after. I was so ecstatic when Lily told Rufus that she was leaving Bart for good. Papa Bass is not the man for Lily and it was about time she decided to end things. Talk about Rufus being a classy guy as he didn't push the issue after she made her announcement and only took her in his arms and started to dance with her. She needed support at that precise moment and that's what he offered. I enjoyed their one on one on the rooftop a lot. Rufus telling Lily that he has been regretting letting her go everyday since her wedding to Bart just broke my heart. I truly hope that those two give their couple a serious try once the whole "Bart was in an accident" ordeal is over.

Other tidbits of interest:
  • Yay for Nate choosing Vanessa over Jenny! The latter really doesn't deserve Nate considering her recent behavior. Jenny is not turning into the person we tought she was going to become so no wonder Nate doesn't like who she is right now either. I hope this rejection shakes Jenny up enough for her to go back to being daddy's little girl.
  • Yuk at Serena and Aaron. Need I say more?
  • I truly hope that this episode marked the end of Dan and Serena not being able to let go of one another. These two need to really accept that they are not in a relationship anymore and move on. They did "clear the air" as they said but will it be enough?
  • "If Beta Bass is anything like the original, I have no doubt that sooner or later he'll disappoint me." How true was Blair when she said those words. Then again, Beta Blair would surely sooner or later back stab Chuck! As it was the case for the Betas, Chuck and Blair need to end up together. Until this happens, I'm willing to be entertained each week by their dancing around one another.

You mentioned, that we learn why Rufus led Lily marry Bart in the end of Season 1. Could you write down the reason for us that are not able to see the show (Germany), and just are reading your blog about Season 2?
Pleaseeeee ...
Love, Ania

OMG! I am also a Rufus/Lily shipper! I am so in-love with those two and wanted them to be together so badly. I want them because there is so much history in them and it's love. Compare it to the young one's, it seems they are not so serious about love. I love the episode and also the thanksgiving episode. Seems that the writers felt that Rufus and Lily really should be TOGETHER.

I know it's a bit late, butust to save myself -- or sound more like an idiot. But I was talking about the whole Bart is going to die thing in one of the comments. I don't know if it was speculation, but sounded more like a spoiler to me.

I didn't catch the previews for the next episode or if I didn't catch it in the episode so if it was mentioned there, sorry!

I love Jenny!!! She is soo edgy and cute i think she so deserves Nate:
1) She was in a relationship with him but it only ended because both of them were in trouble with their family issues.
2) Vanessa took the letter from her (illegal) btw, and she went crazy when they were together and ruined jennys life.
3) Jenny came back and was there for Nate but Vanessa (crazy again) threw herself at nate despite how jenny felt about him.

So long that friendship

mikedt: technically, it's not a spoiler once the episode aired.

I'm not a Jenny fan but don't like Vanessa either. But Vanessa deserved what she got. First she withholds the letter from Jenny, then she puts her down in front of her face about it and about going out with Nate knowing how Jenny felt about Nate. Too bad they didn't throw that crap in her hair.

Yeah but it's almost like you stole my toothbrush, so I'm going to burn your house down. Okay, not to that extreme but you get my point.

And the way the two girls handled it speak to their maturity. Vanessa was willing to give up Nate because she realized it was wrong while Jenny was all about revenge revenge revenge getting tangled up with the girls she hated anyways. But I did like Jenny dissing those girls while defending Vanessa. So even Jenny thinks Vanessa did the right thing there at the end.

If you didn't watch the show last night, you shouldn't be on sites like this reading about it. Spoilers are always posted on here.

Ick why does everyone want Vanessa and Nate to get together. Isnt anyone else annoyed by her? I cant stand her. Although she is "home schooled" she acts like an old lady. Ugh. PLus whats with Nate. (Yes I know its Gossip Girl) but come on, where is your self respect to wait around and throw yourself at some pretty faced playboy who cant make up his mind. It was a pathetic view of females. Get over it, put on your big girl shoes and find someone hot, sexy and unattached. "Oh now he wants me! Weeeeee!"~

Also help me out guys: Why cant Blair and Chuck get together? I must have missed this. Are they related? What? Thanks!

I've said it before and I'll say it again - IMDB Dorota and you'll see that she is seriously a hottie!

anywho - FAB episode. Yeah it was hard to avoid the Bart will die spoilers, but that's alright. I am VERY curious to find out that piece of info the PI told Bart... And I DO think it was a conspiracy and that he was killed - something about the previews made me think so (cant remember just what it was).

I really hope Chuck and Blair DON'T get together - their scheming and drama is the best part of the show. If they were together - holding hands and going to movies??? blech. Serena and Dan on the other hand - enough already, just admit you miss each other, kiss, and get back together. Serena and Aaron are SO gross together!

Rufus and Lily are the true heart and soul of the show right now.

RUMOR MILL: Jessica Szohr and Ed Westwick spotted in the Texas airport making out!

Oh gag me. I hate Lily/Rufus. They make Lily unbearably stupid an whiny. And Jeers to Josh for recycling OC plots when we're only into the second season of his new show.

Blair, Chuck, and Darota need their own spin off, that's just them and their wacky antics.

I have to agree with you about Chuck, Blair and Dorotha! They rock together! Dorotha has definitely blossomed in a cool supporting character.
