Here's a sneak peek at NBC's Kings - VIDEO

KingsCan I be a little bit cynical here? I'm watching the preview of the new NBC drama Kings (after the jump), and I can already tell this is probably going to have a hard time making it. Looks like it has a great cast (including Ian McShane) and a plot you don't usually see on primetime television (a small town guy becomes a war hero and rises to power in a city with the help of people behind the scenes pulling the strings - based on the story of King David).

But it also seems like a show that might be hard for viewers to grab hold of, especially in this day and age of networks wanting quick hits and large numbers of viewers. It seems rather complex and epic, and yet another show with a continuing storyline.

Oh, and it's on NBC, which means that they'll probably put it on Monday night at 10, and we know what happens to shows that debut there (NBC has not announced a premiere date for the show yet, only that it's sometime in 2009). NBC already failed with Four Kings; what makes them think they can succeed with one? Take a look at the video and let us know what you think.

I for one plan to watch it. We need more complex adult dramas like this. I have heard NBC plans to air it Sunday nights, and I'm hoping they stick with that plan.

Kevjohn- Two wrongs don't make a right (or something like that) You can't not watch what you think is a good show because you are afraid it might get cancelled. You need to watch it and tell you friends about the show if you like it. Word of mouth is what will help a show become a bigger hit. I certainly understand your frustration as i've had many shows I've liked over the last few years get cancelled ( Invasion, Surface, Dirty Sexy Money, Black Donnelly's etc...) but we can't live in fear of the unknown and as someone who follows the industry close I feel it's my responsability to promote a good show.

I think... that after wasting my time watching the few episodes of My Own Worst Enemy that were produced, I will no longer be watching any new television shows. If any new show seems remotely interesting to me I will wait until they make it through the first season and get picked up for their second. Then I'll go get the season one DVD.

I saw the first twenty minutes or so of the pilot last summer at comic-con, and it wasn't enough for me. I'm super excited about this show. It looks amazing and I think it'll have enough qualities to attract a broad audience. I hope at least. Either way, everyone should give this show a few episodes. I'm almost certain it won't disappoint based on what I've seen so far.
