T.R. Knight wants to leave Grey's. Should we care?

by Isabelle Carreau, posted Dec 9th 2008 8:02PM
T. R. KnightIf you are like me and use a RSS reader to keep tabs of the TV news of the day, you were probably overwhelmed by the number of articles claiming that T.R. Knight asked to leave ABC's Grey's Anatomy. In order to make my RSS reader a tad more crowded with this news, I decided to join in on the fun and blog about it!

The reason for Knight's request? He is unhappy with his storylines. Now where have we heard this reason before?

You have to admit that the actor has a point since he hasn't been doing much on the series so far this season and from the look of spoilers, it seems that no huge storylines are coming his way. Actually, he has been so underused since the season premiere that writing him off would not hurt the series at all. And you know what? I don't care if he stays or if he goes.

Depending on where you read the news, some websites claim that the actor actually walked off the show while others say that he has not and even attended the latest table read. No matter if he walked off or not and why he wants off, the end will be the same: the actor will either leave the show or not.

According to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, Shonda Rhimes and ABC are inclined to honoring T.R. Knight's request. Why wouldn't they? Not only do they have to make room for the new comers (Kevin McKidd and Melissa George just to name two), but why keep yet another actor who is unhappy with his storylines?

I loved the pre-Gizzie George so I would care a tiny bit if he left the show but considering that we will never get back that character on Grey's Anatomy since he is surrounded by Izzie and Meredith, I would prefer see George transfer to another hospital than mope around all day at Seattle Grace. The only way I see George improving and getting back his groove is with a total change in surroundings. How about California? I hear that there is a new practice opening in the same building as Oceaniside Wellness Center (aka the doctor's practice in Private Practice). And what a better way to have George move there than during February Sweeps when a huge crossover between GA and PP is set to occur?

Even if I don't care much anymore about what will happen to T.R. Knight's character, I must admit that the news made Ausiello give us another clue as to which TV star is about to get axed and doesn't know about it. Many of you thought it was T.R. Knight, especially in light of a post written by Kristin Dos Santos. Turns out that Ausiello was not referring to Knight when he told us that someone was about to get axed.

What do you think of T.R. Knight potentially leaving Grey's Anatomy? Do you think it will be good for the show or hurt it? Should Shonda Rhimes offer Knight to join the Private Practice cast?

If T.R. wants to leave... let him go. I mean he's a great actor, but where has he been this season and the last half of last season.... He's given up on the show...the show that we all love, so LET HIM GO!

It's simple: there are WAY too many characters to give quality material to everyone. 5-7 characters makes for an ensemble cast, but now they're into double digits.

For TK Knight's sake, I hope he's trying to bluff. The "unhappy with the writing" route worked for Izzie because the writer's needed what they thought was an ace in the hole plot line with Dead Denny--especially after canning the Hahn/Torres romance (even though both were awful choices.)

If TK pursues this he's going to lose big. No one in TV is going to take a chance on him. Even though the Isaiah Washington debacle and bad writing could hardly be blamed on TK Knight, a move like this shows he's not a good sport and won't weather the storm that most ultra-popular shows go through. If that happens he'll probably end back up in theater (which he did say he enjoyed a lot more than TV acting, I believe.)

I wouldn't care if TR left the show. He contributes nothing. In fact the entire show has gobe down hill. In the beginning I loved it but now it is ridiculous. In the past three years I have spent alot of time in a hospital setting because of my son being ill and if I ever saw his doctors and nurses carrying on the way they do on GA, I don't know what I would do. They are all so imature and the storyline with Izzie and Denny is awful. Changes need to be made or they won't have anyone watching it anymore.

TR knight is one of the reasons I continue to watch the show and losing him would be a great loss to the show -- doesn't anyone else agree -- if so, please post! I don't understand why they don't just give him a great storyline.

Duh! That is one of the most ridiculous sentences I've ever read on this blog (not counting comments). Sorry, but I was shaking my head on that one lol.

TR Knight should go, quickly, yesterday if possible. He is such a wimpy guy. I'd miss him like an ingrown toe nail. He brings nothing to the show. His romp with Izzie was preposterous. His marriage turned out to be a sham. He got Washington fired. He is the least likable character on the show. If he were to disappear from TV forever I would be a happy camper.

He should get a new series real quick on premium cable as a lot of shows are being cut for budgets after the writers strike messed with the rating. At the same time he has a following already and an asking price plus HBO/SHO are developing several exciting new shows and I would bet he could bring a talent and viewers.
