While I do find it slightly offensive that my go-to channels have pushed their old legitimate content toward higher order iterations of themselves (Like ESPN8, the Ocho), maybe if they are going to lean that way they will eventually sect off like Fox with its general Fox, its NewsFox, its edgy FX, and its FoxReality.

I have enjoyed the show Exiled as far as MTV reality programming, mostly because it punishes kids from the super sweet 16 series, usually by forcing them to deal with other cultures and their food and poop handling differences.

Reality killed the television star. But shitty music and poor management killed the MTV/music video star.

MTV hired some dumb blond chick like 12 years ago to run it, and her plan was less music and more real world, road rules, jackass, and bam. MTV immediately became irrelevant, and has remained irrelevant ever since. But she's still the head of MTV as far as I know. She's up there with Hitler, Stalin, and Rove in terms of people who should have been aborted. I grew up with MTV, and to see it destroyed on the whim of some dumb whore is the gravest of crimes.

As long as "Music Television" is descriptive of the programming one would find on a channel with that name, such a channel will NEVER be profitable. Not now... 15+ years ago it could have been (and was).

All MTV shows is non-music oriented (thus fraudulent in the grand scheme of things) reality shows. Does anyone actually watch MTV? Does anyone watch "The Real World"? Young people living in a house? They're not famous. They're not killing off one house-member each week. They're just... living in a house. I don't even know what Road Rules is about, I think it's about young people taking a road trip. Young people who are not famous... not celebrities.... not killing off one traveler each week. Why would anyone watch that? Does anyone watch that?

As for all their "Bam" shows... that's just a result of bad drugs and bad brain damage.

Music videos are on TV are dead in general, not just on MTV. Modwild is right, this isn't a cost cutting measure; music videos are free.

The problem is, nobody watches them in big blocks anymore, not when there's YouTube, iTunes and On-Demand. The future of music television isn't on broadcast television, it's on the internet and on On-Demand channels like Music Choice.

Railing against MTV for abandoning music video programming is misguided; the medium has simply changed.

MTV wants to make a profit, they cater to their new audience. Once the Real World/Road Rules Challenges and Laguna Beach starting getting more popular, music stopped being their main focus. They make more money, they cater towards their audience. Plain and simple.

If you want music videos, seek out the channels specifically devoted to them. MTV and VH1 own a few of them.

All MTV ever shows is "Real world / Road Rules" and "Viva Bam's [Whatever]".... at least that's all I ever see when I look at the Tivo guide to see what's on Tv and look through the basic cable channels. MTV has nto shown music videos in over a decade as far as I know.

But considering how pathetically miserable today's music is, I don't really blame them. The only thing worse than reality shows is modern pop music. So MTV, rather than doing the honerable thing and calling it quits, has resorted to becoming 100% reality programming. This makes MTV the most worthless channel basic cable provides, while also making its name (Music Television) dishonest or even fraudulent. But modern "music" is nto really music anyway, so even if they did show music videos of popular bands and their "hit" songs, it would still be equally dishonest/fraudulent. I think MTV has taken the high road in this respect, but the truly honorable thing to do would be to call it quits, pull the plug and go off the air. I'd really respect them for that - SOMEONE should officially note that music died around 2003-2004.

So it is true, I guess VH1 is the only place to get music videos nonstop for quite a few hours.

This means more horrible shows...another Paris Hilton BFF?!!?!? Or other shows?!

Or more True Life? They were quite interesting at times, though sometimes a bit over the top.

I like MADE, possibly the best show they have.
