Right now on Cinematical

by Kona Gallagher, posted Dec 26th 2008 6:45PM
The folks at our sister site Cinematical are working hard to give you news and reviews of the best -- and worst -- the silver screen has to offer. Here are some of their latest musings on the latest blockbusters, indies, and everything in between:

  • You guys, I cannot take Valkyrie seriously. Seriously, who thought that making a movie in 2008 about Nazis starring Tom Cruise in an eye patch was a good idea? Anyway, Cinematical reviews Valkyrie here.
  • Don't you love year-end list time? Movies, actors and trends; Cinematical examines the hottest of 2008.
  • Okay, don't freak out yet. Warner Bros. is still planning on releasing The Watchmen in March, but a judge has ruled that FOX has at least distribution rights. Read the latest on the battle for Watchmen here.
  • If you have to take out classics like Psycho and the original Friday the 13th and only choose movies from 1990 to the present, what would you put as the best horror movies? Cinematical has the top 25.
  • Because it's the day after Christmas, I present to you without further comment, drunk Jeff Goldblum. Happy holidays!

Guys, just because von Stauffenberg wore an eyepatch in real life does not mean Cruise doesn't look goofy with it on. He's a bad fit for the role. The end.

Did you see the movie? Somehow I doubt it. I thought Cruise fit in well... the movie is an ensemble movie, not a Tom Cruise vehicle.

Kona - Let it go, please. All this ribbing of Tom Cruise is so 2 years ago. Give the guy a break and move on already. The person Cruise's character is based on wore an eye patch, and the movie is based on true life events. I'm glad this little known story has finally reached the mainstream. If you're trying to be cutting edge, try using material a little less out-of-date. You're in the entertainment business, after all. Try to keep up.

I love it, keep it up. He deserves all the ridicule and he can get, and I don't think he gets enough! I'll visit TV Squad more often if they can find more time to make fun of him.

Seriously, have you seen the film? Because if you did, you'd know Tom Cruise has an eye patch because his character and the movie is based on a true story. I have seen the film, and his eye is not the only thing he loses in the film. Valkyrie was a suspenseful film that was well directed by Bryan Singer. Plus Tom Cruise, Tom Wilkinson, Kenneth Brannaugh and Bill Nighy are fantastic in it. If you don't go see it because you don't like Tom Cruise you are missing out on a fantastic and true little known WWII story about the most successful attempt by some Nazis to assassinate Hitler.
