Grey's Anatomy: Wish You Were Here

(S05E11) "Sexed-up stalkers." - Sloan
I thought Grey's Anatomy had gone far enough with the Izzie/Denny mess - until this episode. Why you ask? Because they introduced a doctor who gets around on Heelys!! Do you have any idea how much I hate Heelys? Nine-year-olds come whipping by on those damn things when you're walking around the mall, and as much as you hate to wish bad things upon a 9-year-old, I'm just waiting for the headline "Local Sixth Grader Wearing Heelys Cracks Skull Open in Front of Orange Julius." Oh and that doctor (Dr. Arizona Robbins) that got introduced tonight? She's a pediatric surgeon. Great message to send to the youth of America.
At this point, I've decided to take Webber's approach and not get attached to any new doctors that come through the front doors of Seattle Grace Hospital. No one stays - they all quit! That being said, Dr. Robbins seems like she has a pretty good attitude about things, and I loved how she didn't take any crap from Bailey. And speaking of Bailey, her whole "Nazi" schtick is starting to get old, and I'm glad it got worked into the story when Webber brought it up with her. Has she ever liked any of her fellow doctors? She trash-talks and insults colleagues with the best of 'em, and it's about time someone came after her for it. She gets too attached to patients - way too attached - and all it ends up doing is clouding her judgment. At it's core, it's really not that different than Izzie and the LVAD wire mess, and remember how much Bailey chastised her for that? Bailey might not be physically cutting any wires, but her stubbornness and inaction will have the same effect.
OK, moving on. Sloan and Callie? I say go for it when it comes to Lexie and Sadie. I've resigned myself to accepting a simple truth about Grey's Anatomy - by the end of this series everyone will have slept with everyone else, so why try and fight it? Drink, operate, have sex. Take your pick - every doctor on this show is only ever doing one of those three things.
A few more thoughts...
-
OK, so Izzie told Alex everything about Denny, and he didn't seem to care or think it was a big deal. WTF? Is this just Shonda Rhimes reacting to all the negative feedback and trying to tone down the sheer ridiculousness of this plot by making the characters on the show not care? Not working. It's still bonkers. Izzie has deeper conversations with Denny than she does with living people.

Alex used one of my personal favorite insults: hosebag. Very underrated and quite fun to say.

It's a Grey's storytelling staple, but I hate when the cases mirror the doctor's lives. While Eric Stoltz was great as Dunn (the serial killer), it feels like he was brought in simply to add to the Yang/Meredith tension. It felt forced and that killed it (no pun intended) for me.
-
It's been mentioned two, maybe three times now - what happened between Sadie and Meredith in Amsterdam?
-
Frankly, I don't see how Yang and Meredith never speaking again is a bad thing.

For the duration of this series, we're going to have to endure Sloan saying "I'm going to Denver" whenever he's chasing tail. Super.
While much of this episode annoyed me (could ya tell?), I especially liked the ending when we found out about Derek's father being shot by thieves who stole his watch. To me, Shepherd is one of the few remaining interesting character on this show, and with this little bit of info, I'm really looking forward to the introduction of his mother (Tyne Daly) next week.
