Coming soon...Puppy Bowl V

by Brad Trechak, posted Jan 11th 2009 9:56AM
Puppy BowlAnimal Planet has once again slated the Puppy Bowl (this one is number 5) to take place on February 1st, the same day as the Super Bowl. The National Anthem will be sung by a parrot and there will be a half-time show involving kitties. Sometimes you just can't make this stuff up.

I was informed that there was some excitement last year when one of the puppies knocked down a dalmatian who was carrying the ball and was penalized as a result and taken out of the game. I don't know exactly how that works, but it sounds exciting.

It's a cute gimmick that the Animal Planet has developed. You can't get much cheaper and cuter than filming puppies playing in a faux football stadium and people that watch puppies are definitely a different niche than those that watch football.

Still, there is some room for improvement. Why not throw a few bunnies and hamsters in there to liven things up? How would you improve the Puppy Bowl?

Giant breed puppies! Irish Wolfhounds, Great Danes, St. Bernards, the really cute ones. :)

I was wondering how to enter our puppy into the next Puppy Bowl. We have yet to meet any "pet professionals" as we call them, ie. vets, vet nurses, groomers, other pet owners that haven't told us that he needs to get into t.v. or advertising. Not to gloat, but he is a very attractive male yellow lab with a beautiful coat, the most handsome face and a little black dot, a beauty mark if you will, right behind his nose on his right cheek. Anyways, I just want to know how to get him into the Puppy Bowl VI.

They need to bring back a Malamute! Bruin was by far my MVP of last year's Puppy Bowl.

To improve, simply add more Pugs.

I hope the above was made in reference to a removed comment, if not, I'm confused.

Either way, The Kitty Halftime Show is the bomb.

Yes, sad to say, I do turn to the Puppy Bowl during commercials.

Not superbowl commercials, I have better things to do then to watch rich egotists throw a ball around.

You obviously are too young.

First off, the NFL is all about - well, what? Strip club attendees who hires shooters?

I got it. You think the Super Bowl is about $3,000,000 commercials. Cool.

At least you didn't think it was about the viewers having fun watching something.

Otherwise? You'd choose something other than watching a bunch of 'roided out males strutting making a tackle on 2nd and 4 - like they did the last 19 weeks.

Grow up dude.

They could have real NFL players play and use puppies as the footballs. Maybe use the little yapper dogs for the kicking game. I wonder how far they could punt one of them.

I hope this works out better than Puppy Bowl IV.

It was all about politics, everyone knows the Border Collies cut a deal with the refs. The Bulldogs had a clear advantage and were getting terrible calls.

If we repeat the events PB IV, we'll never see the true glory that is this sport. No wonder Air Bud won't be in attendance this year.
