Jack Black and Nicole Kidman rock out in two of this week's must-see picks

The Golden Globes air tonight, so if you want to brush up on your awards history then you won't want to miss Jack Black's hilarious, Golden Globes-nominated performance in 'School of Rock.'

But that's not the only movie making music this week. 'Moulin Rouge!,' the Baz Luhrmann musical starring Ewan McGregor and an Oscar-nominated Nicole Kidman, airs this Thursday.

See more of AOL's flick picks of the week after the jump.

'School of Rock'
Sun., Jan. 11, 8PM on TBS

Synopsis
: Fired from his group and desperate for money, a guitarist (Jack Black) poses as a teacher for students who play in a school band.

What the Critics Said: Critics rocked out to Jack Black's highly praised and Golden Globes-nominated performance.

Our Take: Black's signature humor will have fans laughing throughout, but the film also has enough heartwarming moments for the entire family to enjoy.

'Mean Girls'
Wed., Jan. 14, 7 and 9PM on ABC Family

Synopsis: Attending high school for the first time, a teenager (Lindsay Lohan) becomes friends with three popular but manipulative students.

Fun Fact: Emmy-winner Tina Fey, who plays Lohan's math teacher Ms. Norbury, also wrote the screenplay.

Our Take: This biting and dead-on look at high school cliques boasts a surprisingly strong lead performance from Lohan; it also proves that Tina Fey was hilarious long before Sarah Palin came around.

'Moulin Rouge!'
Thu., Jan. 15, 8PM on E!

Synopsis:
In 1890s France a courtesan (Nicole Kidman) falls in love with a young writer (Ewan McGregor) but strings along a duke who can finance improvements to the night spot.

Number of Oscar nominations:
8. The film was a big hit with the Academy, earning noms for Best Picture and Best Actress (Kidman) in 2001.

We Say:
The emotional payoff at the end is well-worth it ... so long as you can keep up with the film's manic beginning. Either way, hearing Kidman sing like a seasoned pro is reason enough to watch.
