David Letterman almost got kicked in the head once - VIDEOS

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 29th 2009 6:06PM
LettermanI think we can all agree that the infamous Andy Kaufman/Jerry Lawler incident on the old Late Night with David Letterman show (where Kaufman and Lawler got into an argument and then a punch was thrown) was staged. But when it comes to another infamous incident from the show, where Crispin Glover demonstrated his kicking technique next to Letterman's head? I think that was weird and real.

The Glover interview is on Cracked's Letterman's most hilariously awkward moments list. Most of them are actually from his current CBS show. Only two of them (Glover and cartoonist Harvey Pekar) are from the old NBC show. Other awkward interviews listed (with videos) include Madonna, John McCain, and Michael Richards (with special awkward cohort, Jerry Seinfeld!).

Oddly, one of the weirdest interviews isn't even listed, the one Dave did with an obviously, um, distracted Farrah Fawcett several years back on the CBS show. If this was a top 10 list (not sure why they stopped at 9) then they could have included her. If they wanted to keep it at 9, I would have put Fawcett in instead of McCain. The video of the 1997 interview is below.

Guys calm down, MJL's idea of a blog is apparently a personal diary where he/she writes about all the boys that they dream about kissing, and how many times they cut themselves in the last few weeks to hide the pain and lonliness...

Man people, you have got to give these bloggers a break. I am not trying to suck up here (I really do have a life), but I could not imagine having to write articles EVERY day for the tough internet enviroment. Without them, we wouldn't even be able to expess our own views on these very sites. It's hard to please everybody. If you see something you don't like....just pass on it.

I can imagine it now:

Grace Park wakes up!
Grace Park watches GMA!
Grace Park brushes her teeth!

(Ok, sorry dude, it was a shot I had to take)

That's a pretty good list.

One recent interview that came to mind was Dave dressing down Spencer Pratt last summer. When they cut to Spencer's girlfriend in the green room, she says, "Spencer's the man." Without missing a beat, Dave asks, "For what?" Classic.

MJL: are you even remotely aware of what a blog is? I didn't rip-off anything. In fact, I LINKED to the original story.

Damn, you're right. My idea of a blog involves actual effort. You LINKED to the article!? My apologies!

You have to understand what it's like for someone who reads TV Squad regularly to come across one of your posts. While other contributors write about items in the news, or come up with their own creative ideas for posts, you consistently find items like this on other websites, that more talented people put time and effort into, and pass it off as something that's worth posting about. It's one thing to post a daily roundup of interesting stories on other sites/blogs (Awful Announcing does it in a single post). But I'm afraid this type of work is just lazy.

MJL, not sure what you see in Bob's post that's different from the rest of the stuff we do here. He discussed the source material (and mentioned where it came from) and added his own thoughts and some examples he thought the article should have included. He even found and embedded video. Not sure what else he could have done to put his own spin on things.

Huh, that's odd, heh. I changed the wording a bit Zachary, thanks.

You know what I find awkward? Bob Sassone ripping off yet another article.

Did you read the article? Because the Kaufman fight was not on that list.
