Reaper to return two weeks earlier than expected

by Mike Moody, posted Feb 3rd 2009 11:33AM
reaper the cwLast month we told you that Reaper – that delightful CW show about a boy working for the devil – would be coming back on March 17. Today, the network announced that the show will begin its second season on March 3 – two whole weeks earlier than expected. This is great news for those of us who've been dying to find out what the deal is with Sam's undead dad.

There's more good news. The CW says they plan to air all thirteen produced episodes straight through. That means no repeats or months-long hiatuses. Just 13 weeks of fresh, unadulterated Reaper.

There is some potentially bad news, though. Reaper is switching time slots with 90120, which means it'll be going up against the big-ratings monster that is FOX's American Idol. I guess there are two ways to perceive this news. You can either view it as smart counter-programming by the CW execs or as a sign that the network has no faith that Reaper can grab a huge audience. Depends on your perspective I guess. Me, I'm just happy the show is coming back.

Love the love for Reaper, and hope that this new date is good for the show. We're debating that at reaperdmv.com right now, and watching our countdown clock to the premiere!

Does everyone know there is a Reaper 2009 calendar available at borders now for 4 bucks, then will be 1 dollar in a week but supplies are limited.

The CW should put Reaper after smallville or supernatural, if they really want to nurture this show. Putting this up against idol is just throwing it to the wolves.

I have watched Smallville since week 2 of the series. The CW needs to END that show THIS YEAR and put more money behind Supernatural and Reaper (2 of the best shows on the air right now).

I get for Pushing Dasies we are going to pass you with the 13 ep run but to be ahead seen wrong.
Oh and with everyone on American Idol and Pop Idol (we get both at roughly the same time), oh and Dancing on Ice and X factor and flaming Britain got Talent (I like there to be something to watch on Saturdays)

My prayers have sort of been answered. Now I don't have to worry about having to choose which show to watch online when it goes up against Fringe and Scrubs.

But putting it against American Idol? Makes me think that Reaper would have a better chance on cable.

I don't care if it does go up against American Idol. I don't even watch it anymore. I am getting sick and tired of reality shows.

They're protecting 90210 because they have big plans to bring back Melrose Place, and I'm guessing it will be a night of the two. 90210 won't disappear until they determine Melrose's future.

Nothing that goes up against Idol is really expected to do well, so maybe it's the Dollhouse principle....by putting it against something that is guaranteed to win, we can give it room to fail without concern. LOL!

Suddenly Tuesday is a great TV night -- Fringe, Reaper *and*, all in a row. Sweet.

Yay, Reaper! I'm looking forward to this season. I agree with Tony -- kick 90210 to the curb and let it die a natural death already.

I am assuming they are putting it against American Idol to justify getting rid of it when the ratings will suck.

I love this show and hope it stays around for a while.
