In a conference call with media outlets this week, Summer Glau said she was "shocked" after reading the script for the season two finale of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Glau, who plays the Terminator Cameron on the FOX series, told reporters that she was also "a little sad" but excited about the upcoming season ender. "I think everybody is going to be shocked at what happens at the end of this season," she said.

Her reaction might have something to do with the possible death of a major character. Series creator Josh Friedman has spoken publicly about possibly killing off a character from the show in an upcoming episode, even saying that the current season should end with "one more good character death." Friedman, who also took part in the conference call, didn't reveal any spoilers about the possible death, but he and Glau did discuss some details about the show's return on February 13, including the show's move to Fridays, the possibility of a third season, and Cameron's love for John Connor. The Friday move
Friedman was optimistic about the move to Fridays. "We were getting our asses kicked on Mondays," he said. Friedman and Glau both feel that the move is an opportunity for a "fresh start," and they like the idea of being paired up with Joss Whedon's Dollhouse. Friedman seems optimistic about Fox's soon-to-be "sci-fi Fridays," calling it a smart move and a way to give genre TV fans what they want on one night.

I want to share their optimism, but I can't quite get there. FOX's new promo for the Terminator/Dollhouse double bill is giving me hope, though.

The next nine episodes
Episode 14, "The Good Wound," picks up shortly after the events of episode 13, "Earthlings Welcome Here." Friedman said the "back nine" episodes will be more serialized than the first part of season two. Glau said Cameron would be doing a few "unexpected things" in the mid-season opener, and she promised big action and lots of "running around and shooting people." She called the season-ending arc "a rollercoaster." "People are going to be wondering what happens next," she said. "I think everyone will be really thrilled ... I have a lot of mixed emotions about it."

John Connor's father Kyle Reese, played by Jonathan Jackson, will show up in episode 14, but Friedman didn't offer any details about the character's return. "Let's all just wait and see," he said.

Cameron's evolution
Does Cameron love John and Sarah? Does she feel any emotion at all? Glau said she believes that Cameron does feel love for the Connors, especially John. "Cameron's love for John is because he is her whole reason for existing ... I think that is love, and I think she would do anything for him, and in her reality I think that's what love is for her."

Friedman was quick to point out that Cameron is not "becoming human." Instead, she is trying to become "the ideal version of what she wants to be," which is a very human pursuit. But, Glau said, it's important to remember that Cameron is a dangerous robot and that "anything can happen at any moment with her." Friedman said the next nine episodes would explore Cameron's dedication to John and what decisions she'll have to make to keep her "larger goals alive." Cameron has a lot of information that the other characters don't have, Friedman said, which makes her job of protecting John "complicated."

What about a third season?
Both Glau and Friedman seemed optimistic about the possibility of a third season, but Friedman said he had "no idea what's going to happen in the next few months." It all depends on ratings, of course, and whether or not the show's numbers will improve on Fridays.

Friedman sad he didn't write the upcoming season finale as a series finale. "If I tried to sum up every single thing in 43 minutes it would be a disaster. It would end up like a clip show," he said. Instead, the season-ender will conclude a few season two plotlines and set up a possible third season, which Friedman is already mapping out.

- Like most of us who watch this show, Friedman loves Summer Glau. He wrote the part of Cameron for her after seeing her audition for another show months earlier. "I think she understands the character better than I do," he said.

- Friedman said he'd like to revisit the Allison from Palmdale character and the engineer who built the time machine in 1963 from the pilot episode.

- He didn't reveal if Cameron would duke it out with Shirley Manson's liquid metal Weaverbot any time soon, but he did say that Cameron would have "no advantages" in a straight-up brawl with Weaver. "I'm avoiding her," Glau said.
