United States of Tara will be back for season two

showtime united states of taraI guess all those good reviews and high ratings haven't gone unnoticed. United States of Tara has only been on the air for a month, but Showtime has already committed to another year of Toni Collette dealing with her multiple personalities. The network has given the green light to a 12 episode second season.

Tara's premiere earned 2.67 million viewers, more than the premieres of Showtime's Dexter, Weeds, Californication and The Tudors. I'm with America on this one. I was charmed by the Tara premiere, and it's quickly become my favorite Showtime series.

Tara is one of the best "family" shows on TV. The best thing about this series – except for Collette's amazing performance – is how well it portrays a modern American family dealing with a very difficult situation. There's humor and tragedy, and the supporting cast does a great job of making this extraordinary family seem believable.

The series is written and produced by Diablo Cody, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Juno. Steven Spielberg also serves as executive producer. If you haven't done it yet, I suggest watching this Sunday's episode with live Twitter commentary by Cody. She does it almost every week, and you get to learn lots of cool stuff about the show. For example, did you know that John Corbett once roadied for Dokken?

I've got two months of Showtime for free left, then what am I going to do? Hope Nate Corddry is back for season two!

I love United States of Tara, especially Marshall. :3
Kind of wish TV Squad would review more than just the first two episodes though. =/

I don't know, I 've watched a couple eps of this and I am really not that into it. Weeds is much better as a dramedy in my opinion.

Tense typo. Weeds "was" much better as a dramedy. I wholeheartedly agree! But the last season (and somewhat the season before), it has gotten silly and kind of stupid. I still watch, but I don't think it currently is better than Tara.

And I thought the Tara pilot was just OK. But the later episodes have hooked me. I love that the gay boy isn't a walking stereotype (for the most part). I love Alice. I am growing to love the daughter. And of course, Nate Cordry is awesome! Even Tara's sister, who I was kind of annoyed with initially, is growing on me. I love Buster as the teacher (although I hope he gets to show his comedic chops a little more).

I haven't seen the show but if Cody and Spielberg are behind it, it's gotta be great. I like Collette too. She does "messed up" really well.

Honestly, this is quite a surprise. I honestly haven't seen a single episode, I just didn't have faith in the concept or creator.

But now I might just have to give it a go!
