What to Watch Wednesday, Feb. 11

by Kim Potts, posted Feb 11th 2009 5:00AM
American Idol'American Idol'
(8PM, Fox)
There have already been some big surprises since 'Idol' began Hollywood rounds last week, namely the ouster of early favorites Rose Flack and Donny Osmond's nephew, and the hits are likely to keep on coming tonight as the final 36 are revealed.

The contenders will then be divided into three groups of 12, with each group performing across the next three Tuesdays. The top female and male vote-getter, plus the third-place vote-getter (regardless of gender) automatically advance to the top 12, followed by the return of the Wild Card round in which the judges pick the final three top 12-ers.

Assuming Simon, Paula, Randy and Kara can actually agree long enough to choose them.

'Important Things With Demetri Martin'

(10:30PM, Comedy Central) series premiere
The comedy and 'Daily Show' contributor puts his delightfully quirky spin on "important things" like timing, chairs and anger management in this new sketch and stand-up comedy series.

'Lost'
(9PM, ABC)
Locke decides he's the guy to end the island's violent time shifting, while Ben is finding it more difficult than he imagined to be the guy who has to round up the Oceanic Six and get them back to the island.

'The Early Show'
(7AM, CBS)
Get the scoop straight from the horse's mouth, which we in no way mean as a comment on Jessica Simpson's much-discussed recent weight gain, a topic she's sure to dish about during her sitdown on the 'Early Show.'

'Damages'
(10PM, FX)
Patty's trying to tie Walter Kendrick to the murder of Purcell's wife, and Ellen's close to tying Frobisher to David's murder, but the fallout of both of those cases is going to pale in comparison to what Patty's going to do if and when she discovers exactly what her protégé is up to with the Feds.

'Life'
(9PM, NBC)
Crews and Reese investigate the murder of a rock band's lead singer, and the group's former (recently fired) front man is a prime suspect.

'Life on Mars'

(10PM, ABC)
And it's just not a good night for primetime rockers, as Sam and Chris have to babysit wild man singer Sebastian Grace (Cheyenne Jackson) when the superstar starts receiving death threats.

Also on tonight:
- 'The New Adventures of Old Christine' (8PM, CBS)
- 'Top Chef' (10PM, Bravo)

What's on tomorrow: 'Survivor: Tocantins,' 'Grey's Anatomy'/'Private Practice' crossover and more
