Carson Daly wants to stay at NBC

DalyThere's been a lot of talk about Conan taking over for Jay on The Tonight Show and Jimmy Fallon taking over the 12:35 slot and ABC possibly canceling Nightline and moving Jimmy Kimmel to 11:35 and Jay moving to 10pm. But there's one person who has sort of been forgotten in all of the late-night talk show talk: Carson Daly.

It's not hard to forget Last Call with Carson Daly, mind you. If you're up at 1:35am and want to watch a good late-night talk show, Daly's isn't it. It's just so trivial and boring and unexceptional that you sit there and wonder why the hell it's even still on television. And then you realize it's almost 2am and that's probably the reason why it's still on television. If it was on a lot earlier it probably would have been canceled a while ago. That's probably the reason why Daly didn't get Conan's 12:35 slot.

But Daly wants to stick with NBC, and NBC still wants him.

They have just started negotiations (Daly's contract is up in August). Personally, I'd like to see someone else in that slot, or some other show. Late late late night TV doesn't have to be a tired wasteland. It could be the realm of some really great, innovative shows. Shows with a freedom you don't see in prime time (or earlier late night). I just don't think Daly can do that show.

Wouldn't it be great for NBC to just give a few hours of the overnight shift to some really innovative host/producers? Maybe even make it live and unpredictable, with on-the-street segments, funny short films, standup, cooking segments. A real late-night show. Hell, I'd stay up to watch that, or at the very least, record it for the next day.

Amy Sedaris would be perfect for this late, late timeslot.

Worst Host EVER. Writing is bad, skits are bad, band sucks...and still no HD.

The only reason to watch is the rare B-list guest in a tight dress.

They should just start showing repeats of Later w/ Greg Kinnear in that time slot.

Or even older repeats of Bob Costas's late night show. The man gave good talk, usually one on one with a single guest.

1:35am should be reserved for Cheers repeats or something that can pull ratings

The rest of it, I don't know... ABC should strip Nightline Monday-Thursday at 10pm against Leno and Kimmel should move to 11:35pm - that'd be a true Late Night War.

Before you say no to Nightline moving to 10pm, ask yourself if ABC has done anything worthwhile in that timeslot Monday-Friday.

Of course he wants to stay at NBC. Who the hell else would hire him?

Why does NBC still want him? Probably 2/3s of last year his shows were repeats? NBC give me that time slot, I don't know what I would do exactly but I know it would be better than Carson.
