Survivor: The Poison Apple Needs to Go

A rough immunity challenge on Survivor Tocantins

(S18E02)
Why do I get the idea that Jeff Probst thinks the ultimate Survivor show includes a blindside ouster of a castaway? Now, I like a good blindside as much as any show fan, but that's not what the show is all about to me. For me, the element of surprise is definitely a plus. However, it's as much about the scheming, the interaction between castaways, the challenges, and even whether I like the casting or not. Jeff was a happy camper because there was a blindside last week. I was a so-so camper about other issues. What about tonight?

Things I would not do on the show (as seen tonight):

  • I wouldn't eat termites or a huge nasty-looking worm thingee. Nope. No way. I'd live off my body fat, thank you very much.
  • I wouldn't wear a skimpy bikini for challenges. Tonight's challenge was the equivalent of soft-core porn with a few of the girls. One was practically falling out of her top before the water-wrestling even began! I'd wear a t-shirt at the very least.
  • If I had any information about a hidden immunity idol, I don't think I'd share it with anyone ... especially someone I hardly know. True, telling Brendan about the clue hasn't bitten Sierra in the butt yet. But I'd keep it to myself.
  • I wouldn't allow myself to be the one to speak up to Coach or any other alpha-players such as Candace did. And, yeah ... that did bite her in the butt, as she got the boot tonight unanimously, except for her own vote for Sierra.
  • I wouldn't tell anyone that my husband is some sort of big shot NFL dude. People have this odd perception that if another person has money, they don't deserve to win more money. My own thoughts on that issue is that money has nothing to do with anything. If someone is on a show and plays the game well, they deserve to win whether they're rich or poor. That said, I'm glad that Stephen had no clue who Eddie George is. I don't feel so all alone in the world.
What? A new twist?
At least it's something new and not just redone from previous seasons. So, the one going to Exile Island has to choose someone from the "winning" tribe to accompany him. Two clue urns, only one with a clue and the chance to switch tribes. This could be very interesting down the line, although Taj and Brendan basically worked on the bonding part. A cross-tribe alliance may spring up, or someone might actually defect from their tribe. I want to see all angles of this twist played out. Do it, castaways!

Regarding the Immunity Challenge
Y'know, this is the second week that reward and immunity have both been in the same challenge. Is this how it's going to be for the whole season? I enjoy it when the tribes have more chances to win something. The good thing is that each tribe has now won one challenge. So the playing field remains even right now.

But yikes! The challenge itself in the water under monsoon conditions was brutal! (Not to mention exposing!) Except for the peep shows as bathing suits were dragged down, I enjoyed it. Sandy, the "old" lady of 53, showed she's a competitor, while macho Coach wussed out and dragged his tail. Only Sierra came across as a weaker competitor spirit-wise.

Parting thoughts
Candace brought on her own demise. Much as Coach's mouth will probably do him in at one point or another, she shouldn't have been so bold. The tribe might regret voting out a strong person instead of a weak one so early on, but that's on them. All in all, I enjoyed this episode much more than I did the season premiere. That's a very good thing.

About 'clothes', Coach seems to have at least 2 outfits and a coat. He does like those black shirts with the white trim.

I agree, wear something to the challange that will hold up under stress. I dislike Coach, but hate to see him go, I want to see him around so I have reasn to dislike him even more. ;)
Also I love the challanges but now only one a show? What a rip off.

Since that idol was only good for the first tribal council, how is it ever going to bite her in the butt?

i like the twist, if everyone in your tribe kinda hates you then you could switch sides. but as for the combined challenges for like the last 3 seasons that i've seen the first two or three challenges were reward/immunity then the separate them.

I'm with 'Scott' above ... I'm totally loathe 'Coach'. First he compares himself to Candace - saying they are "alike" in that they judge people very quickly, but he quickly amends that by saying "it's part of his job" as if to imply that it is a character flaw for Candace, but not for him. Next he's all about sticking with the plan to vote off the weakest player - aka Sierra - until he gets wind from tattle-tale Debbie that Candace has been talking trash him - at which point 'the plan' becomes all about getting rid of the 'bad attitude' player who just so happened to bad-mouth him. And the way he TOOK HIS JACKET WITH HIM to vote ... what's up with that ? Is he afraid his tribemates will go thru his pockets while he's voting ?

If the other contestants were upset that Taj's husband is Eddie George, what will they think when they find out she is a member of R&B group SWV?

Can't STAND "Coach". His silly half-ponytail and faux alpha-male personal. And the way he slung his jacket over his shoulder while walking to vote at Tribal, like he was headed to a photo shoot for International Male or something. I can't stand guys like that. He needs to go. Soon. Please people. Vote him off.

I liked the Exile twist and especially liked how Taj took control and worked the situation to her advantage. I like her as a player and hope she hangs in there, but I too cringed when she admitted who her husband was. That was not necessary.

As for clothes, I am amazed every season (beyond season one) as to what the players choose to wear. On the China season for example, women wore high heels and low cut tops. Why anyone would wear anything besides sneakers and clothes suitable for camping is beyond me, but they do it every time.

p.s. - The "old" lady is Sandy, not Kathy.

They don't get to choose what clothes they wear. From what I have heard, the producers pick out what they wear. I read an interview with Carolina after she got kicked off saying that they made her wear that red dress, she didn't want to.

Why does Jeff keep thinking these two weeks were blindsides? If the Coach had been kicked off that would have been a blindside?
Why no reward challenge? When the immunity challenge was over, there was still 30 minutes left to go in the show. Other than the Exile island bit, the rest of the show was pretty boring.
Is it me or do these women that go on Survivor need to get a backbone and start taking control early in the game? They all get knocked off one by one.

"Why does Jeff keep thinking these two weeks were blindsides? If the Coach had been kicked off that would have been a blindside?"

I'm assuming he means "blindside" in the sense that the person who went home was not expecting to go home, rather than in the sense that the viewers at home had no idea that the person going home was vulnerable. Candace was expecting Sierra to go home, not herself, so she was blindsided.

Jackie, just how many sets of clothes do you think they have? Soft porn, what?

One thing about Candace, she's an Attorney, one with so much smarts that she would have Coach crying if they had the time. PLEASE!! Just a bitch full of herself and overfull of the breast she bought.
