Adam Carolla scores a pilot while his career hangs by an eyebrow hair
It doesn't matter if you love him or you have a dry-clean only voodoo doll of him complete with Chia-Pet sized eyebrows just to prove how much you hate him. You have to admit that Adam Carolla hasn't had the steadiest career. He's had a ton of self-titled shows that never really caught on with a regular audience. He scored the top spot on the American Top Gear that sparked a lot of interesting buzz and then had the rug pulled out from under him. He got his ass handed to him on the world's least macho reality show, Dancing with the Stars. Since The Man Show closed up shop, he's been bounced around the television more than a pair of silicone flesh globes in a Juggy audition.
The final death blow came last week when CBS Radio cancelled his morning radio show and all of their L.A. based talk shows to save some cash. But just as one door closed in his face, another one opened.
CBS re-hired Carolla to star in a new sitcom pilot called Ace in the Hole in which he plays (of all the roles for a raging gearhead like Carolla) a driving instructor.
The story doesn't leak much in the way of plot or just what type of sitcom the show will be, but it will more than likely follow Carolla's brand of smartass guy humor that has followed him since his days on Loveline. Not only is Carolla's handiwork all over the pilot, but it also features writer Kevin Hench who worked on Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Man Show and helped Carolla write his independent film, The Hammer.
The network literally picked up the sitcom a day after they shut down his terrestrial radio show. So within one 24-hour period, he was fired and then hired back by the very people who fired him. It's a wonder they didn't call his new show Cognitive Dissonance.
