Adam Carolla scores a pilot while his career hangs by an eyebrow hair

It doesn't matter if you love him or you have a dry-clean only voodoo doll of him complete with Chia-Pet sized eyebrows just to prove how much you hate him. You have to admit that Adam Carolla hasn't had the steadiest career.

He's had a ton of self-titled shows that never really caught on with a regular audience. He scored the top spot on the American Top Gear that sparked a lot of interesting buzz and then had the rug pulled out from under him. He got his ass handed to him on the world's least macho reality show, Dancing with the Stars. Since The Man Show closed up shop, he's been bounced around the television more than a pair of silicone flesh globes in a Juggy audition.

The final death blow came last week when CBS Radio cancelled his morning radio show and all of their L.A. based talk shows to save some cash. But just as one door closed in his face, another one opened.

CBS re-hired Carolla to star in a new sitcom pilot called Ace in the Hole in which he plays (of all the roles for a raging gearhead like Carolla) a driving instructor.

The story doesn't leak much in the way of plot or just what type of sitcom the show will be, but it will more than likely follow Carolla's brand of smartass guy humor that has followed him since his days on Loveline. Not only is Carolla's handiwork all over the pilot, but it also features writer Kevin Hench who worked on Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Man Show and helped Carolla write his independent film, The Hammer.

The network literally picked up the sitcom a day after they shut down his terrestrial radio show. So within one 24-hour period, he was fired and then hired back by the very people who fired him. It's a wonder they didn't call his new show Cognitive Dissonance.

I hope we will be a guy down on his luck forced to teach bad-comedy traffic school. "Lettuce Amuse You" anyone?

Carolla is a radio guy. He's proved he can do TV, proved he can do a movie, but he likes radio best and I think all of us fans like him there.

My hope is that he'll move to Satellite or something like that. He says on one episode that I just started listening to that CBS told him to do the podcast so I'm not sure what that's all about.

Carolla Nation!!!!!

As mentioned above check out the podcast at adamcarolla.com.

He was once a driving instructor and his humor always is based on personal experiences so hopefully that will translate.

I don't thin khis career was really unsteady, he did Loveline for 10 years, did The Man Show for i think 5 seasons. DWTS is meant to be a short gig, and the radio show was three years, and had great ratings.

I agree. His career has been more steady and he's done more than 99% of the other participants on DWTS. He was predicted to be the first or at least in the first 3 to be out on that show and he lasted a bit longer than expected. Everyone I've talked to who watch the show are not fans of his and still said he was the funniest one on it.

As Ari mentioned he did Loveline for more than a decade and the Man Show for several seasons. He was offered a lot of money to come back and continue that show when Jimmy Kimmel left, but turned it down.

His radio show, while relatively short-lived in the grand scheme of life, did make it a few years which isn't too bad for a big market radio show. Especially considering all of the other "Stern replacements" were gone in less than a year.

Please god let him go back to Loveline.

The radio division of CBS is entirely separate from the CBS Network that picked up his pilot; the two may be under the same corporate umbrella, but they have nothing to do with each other on a day-to-day basis.

His best show was "The Adam Carolla Project" on TLC. I would love to see him doing more stuff like that which allows him to rant away.

Carolla hung up on Ann Coulter during a live interview, so he will always have a place in my heart! LOL
