Grey's news: Is Meredith getting another half-sibling?

by Jane Boursaw, posted Feb 25th 2009 9:02AM

Grey's AnatomyCould Meredith be getting another half-sibling on Grey's Anatomy? According to Entertainment Weekly's Mike Ausiello, it's very likely.

In his latest installment of Ausiello TV, he notes that late last year, executive producer Shonda Rhimes began quietly looking for a male actor to play a mysterious new recurring role. The person had to be both bi-racial and in his late 20's.

Although we won't know for sure until next season, it seems likely that the character might be the product of the affair between Meredith's mother and the Chief, as their affair was 20-some years ago.

A few other things spring to mind:

Do doctors really sleep around this much? I mean, we know that Sloan, Callie, Izzie, and all the rest of the staff currently employed at Seattle Grace have bedded down pretty much everyone on the show. But apparently, that was happening 20 years ago, as well.

Do shows play the half-sibling card when they run out of ideas? Lexie showed up in season three of Grey's Anatomy, and on Brothers & Sisters, another half-sibling, Ryan, made an appearance this season. Of course, that's in addition to Rebecca, who appeared way back towards the end of season one. I'm sure you can think of others.

I wonder if the Chief knows he has a son. If he does, that will dredge up a lot of festering feelings, including anger at Meredith's mom for not telling him. The Chief's role this season has been a little clownish - like playing the trick on George when he was operating on the pig. A new son would definitely add a little more depth to the Chief's character.

And if he knows about the son and has never said anything, well that's a whole other ball of wax. If that's the case, dark and twisty Meredith will get even more dark and twisty, which will probably set off a whole new series of emotional angst and stall her impending nuptials to Derek.

Any thoughts on this news?

I think that they should let Mereidth and Derrick get married. Also we should see what will happen with Lizzie and with little gray that will be fun to watch. If anything Mereidth 's dad should be the Cheifs that would be a great plot for the next show. But they really need to let Mereidth and Derrick to start their lives together to much on and off. Something needs to be stable. But overall I really Love the show.

* Derrick = Derek
* Lizzie = Izzie
* Gray = Grey
* Mereidth = Meredith

Reading that post made me sad. Honestly, some people should have their computers taken away so the rest of the internet doesn't have to see their inane drivel and horrific spelling/grammar. It wouldn't be so bad except for "Grey," "Izzie," "Derek," and "Meredith" are all spelled correctly above... hmmm.

And I'm pretty sure there's no way the Chief is Mere's dad... they wouldn't have bothered with the whole "Susan" storyline, not to mention... she's about as white as they come, and if that had been Shonda's intention they would have cast a bi-racial actress. Duh.

"How about just getting rid of Meredith and have this show be (Lexie) Grey's Anatomy?"

========================

Because Bruce, seeing as you don't watch the show, Lexie Grey has nothing to do with Shonda's concept of GREY'S Anatomy. It was Ellis and Meredith as Ellis daughter and the connection to the people of SGH. Let's see, Leixie is Thatcher's daughter. Thatcher Grey's Anatomy makes no sense because as a Grey he has zero connection the hospital outside of Ellis/Mer and neither does lexie. She has no history to this hospital outside of Mereidth and since Shonda insists on not letting her HAVE that connection, there no conceivable way her name only has anything to do wit the history of the people that both Ellis and Meredith has. Start with watching S1, listen to Shonda Rhimes first season interview with NPR and you will find out exactly why Lexie has NO connction and what the connetion is in terms of Merdith's history to all of SGH. Duh...

I love the show, but I am sick of Lexi! She isn't cute and just doesn't look like she would be Sloan's type. Enough with Callie being a lesbian! Move on already! Seeing Addison on the crossover episodes really made me realize how much I miss her character on the show. I wish she were back. I am also tired of George and don't care if he leaves. His character is too unrealistic.

I may be wrong, but I keep getting the feeling that Grey's mother's diaries will soon reveal that the Chief is Meredith's real father.

I have no doubt they're going to reveal something big, but I don't think it's going to be that. I'd like to see it reveal that she wanted to have an abortion when she was pregnant with meredith, and decided not to at the last minute for some really bad, selfish reason. That would be fun to watch.

Yes! I forgot about Izzie's kid, too. Thanks for the reminder, Isabelle.

I hope the writers haven't forgotten about her. Maybe Izzie could realize she needs a donor for whatever illness she has, find the kid who would then save her life ("How to Save a Life" - get it?), bond and create a relationship, and move to Alaska and live happily ever after! Yeah, probably not gonna happen on this show.

Sancty - Ah, right. That makes sense, because why would a pig be talking? Then again, clearly anything is possible on this show.

Quid Pro Quo

The chief was joking around with George when he operated on the Robot, not on the pigs

How about just getting rid of Meredith and have this show be (Lexie) Grey's Anatomy? I can't stand meredith, she's by far the worst character on the show, and to ever have been on the show, and I really dislike Ellen Pompeo, too (as an actor not as a person - I know nothing about her).

I've never understood why Meredith is the 'title character' of the show - she doesn't get more screen time, though she does get to say whiny, insipid, annoying crap as she voiceovers most episodes. Why? Why not Yang's Anatomy? Why not Kerev's Anatomy? If anything, this show is "Seattle Grace's Anatomy" - a much more preferable title.

The last thing we need is another member of Meredith's family on the show so as to give her another "issue" to deal with, whine to Christina and bitch to Derrick about (or is that the other way around?), resulting in more screen time for Meredith.

G.E.

its called Greys Anatomy because that is the name of a 'famous' medical textbook...meridiths last name was taken from the textbook....but for the most part i agree with you, the plot has grown stale, but of course i keep watching hoping it will improve.

We don't need another half-sibling when she practically never interacts with her first half-sibling. Plus, the appearance of another half-sibling would giver her yet more opportunities to whine!

If they need to give someone a half-sibling, how about for Derek so we can have more background on the character. Or how about showing us some of the family members for Cristina and Sloan.

But if they really need to do something about family members, my vote goes to the writers wrapping up the Izzie-has-a-kid storyline before Heigl leaves the show.
