American Idol: 3 more to the top 12, and the wild card round begins
This episode went along pretty much as I expected, with most of the people I expected getting through to the top 12. Until the wild card round, that is, when the kids and I were screaming at the TV because of the judges' dismal ineptitude at picking people to come back! But first, let's see what happened up to that point. That's my version of "After the break..."
The show started with the group singing Katy Perry's "Hot and Cold," which was one of my favorite songs until I heard them sing it. But even with the awkward dance moves, they seemed to be having fun, especially Nate, so that's what matters, I guess.
I thought most of them did a good job last night, but I was really blown away by Lil Rounds. Really, just give her the Idol crown right now. I can't imagine that she won't go far in the competition, though she reminds me of LaToya London from a few seasons ago, and she didn't get as far as I had hoped. So we'll see what happens with Lil.
And Lil is first up, so I don't have to wait long to learn she's going through to the top 12. I would have fallen off my chair if she didn't make it. Kara said she expects to hear "just ridiculous vocals" from her every week. The pressure is on!
Arianna Afsar, Alex Wagner-Trugman, Taylor Vaifanua, Kendall Beard, and Scott Macintyre are up next. Only one of them is going through, and I guess right off the bat it'll be Scott. Sure enough, Scott's the man, and the one going through to the top 12. He gets a standing ovation and says he'll never take the competition for granted. Randy says he can't wait to see him play the piano and "blow up the stage every time, Dawg."
Nathaniel Marshall and Kristen McNamara, and then Von Smith and Felicia Barton are up next. With both pairs, Ryan says that after the nationwide vote, "It's a no right now." Hmmm, "right now"...?
Ju'Not Joyner and Jorge Nunez are up next, and this is a tough one, because both of them were really great singers. If I was queen of the world, I probably would have put Ju'Not through, because I think he's the better singer out of the two. But I think America got hooked on Jorge's emotional backstory and voted him through.
Next, the Wild Card Round officially begins. Simon explains that the judges have chosen eight people they want to come back and sing again tomorrow night. Also that Clay Aiken and Jennifer Hudson were both Wild Card Round winners, so anything can happen.
Each of the judges announces the various winners of the Wild Card Round. When all is said and done, the people coming back are: Von Smith, Jasmine Murray, Ricky Braddy, Megan Joy Corkrey, Matt Giraud, Jesse Langseth, Anoop Desai, and ... Tatiana Del Toro...? What?!!!! This is the part where the kids and I were screaming at the TV, "Noooooooooo!!!" I mean, she has an ok voice, but really, judges?! Really?!! What about my man, Ju'Not? He surely deserved it more than Crying Girl!!!
Argh, that's all I've got to say about tonight's episode, because I've run out of exclamation marks. So there are still three slots open ...
| Von Smith | |
|---|---|
| Jasmine Murray | |
| Ricky Braddy | |
| Megan Corkrey | |
| Matt Giraud | |
| Jesse Langseth | |
| Anoop Desai | |
| Tatiana Del Toro |
