Will The Bachelor's Melissa go from dumped to Dancing?

by Michael Pascua, posted Mar 8th 2009 8:42PM
Melissa RycroftClose sources have been throwing the rumor that Melissa Rycroft will be replacing Nancy O'Dell on Dancing with the Stars. Although there aren't any official statements from ABC about Rycroft (or about Holly Madison replacing Jewel), it seems very plausible. I'm under the assumption that Toni Dovolani will be her professional partner. If the name doesn't ring a bell, Melissa was a contestant on the most recent version of The Bachelor.

The replacement news seemed quite obvious for ABC. Think about it: What's the best way for ABC to replace a contestant last minute? Pick someone in their own pool. I was hoping for a Disney Channel star, someone from Pushing Daisies, yet another soap star, or at least someone that could be considered more of a "celebrity."

I'm not expecting much from Melissa, especially with Trista, the original Bachelorette, being eliminated first in Season One. Granted, there were only six contestants that season. Melissa is already behind the eight ball since she has less time to practice than everyone else and she probably has a smaller fan base than the rest of the celebrities.

She is a dancer, and should not be on the show. Remember the premise of the show, no previous dance experience.

The premise of dancing with the stars is that they should be a star whether it is in acting or sports, or what ever. Another premise is that they not have previous dancing experience. So then we have the producers of DWTS, who don't seem to get it and consistently put in ringers. And now here is the ringer, Melissa Rycroft. They are capitalizing on what happened to her on the bachelor show, but, to quote that bachelor "this show will be good to showcase her talent, because she has been dancing all her life".

She is not a star, she is not even a celebrity, she is a dancer and should not be competing on this show.

There was no controversy for this years show, so they had to make some and Melissa Rycroft is this years sob story.

Melissa can hold her own, so dispense with the sympathy stuff. She's got a new boyfriend "already".

her fan base may be larger than any one imagines. I like her, I hope she blows it out of the water and does a great job. I'm going to vote for her every week she's there. And it will be the first time I've ever voted on a show like this

I think people need to get back to the basics of voting for who deserves to be there based on their performance. As for the the announcer and Bruno, a major disappointment to television and young people who we are trying to give and take repect. Both were out of line with their comments and extremely unprofessional and deserves an on-the-air apologies to "Jasen" and the show itself.

I think it's great, Dance on Melissa. I'm sure that the 20 million people who watched her get dumped will cheer her on to the max. I thought she did very well with only having 48 hours to prepare.

I am very sorry to hear this. It seems as though Melissa has gone thru quite a few things lately, beginning with her Cowboys cheerleader days and ending with "Dancing with the Stars" ......... Personally, I think she is getting too much air time....... I'll watch Dancing because I've enjoyed this show from the beginning, but will vote Melissa off as soon as I am able.......

Melissa's fan bas is probably bigger than at least half of this years celebrity cast. Good choice for a last minute fill in and they should automatically keep her and Holly around after first vote off because they haven't had as much time to prepare.

WHY CAN'T WE LET THE POOR GIRL DATE HER OLD BOYFRIEND IN DALLAS..AND LEAVE DANCING WITH THE 'D' LIST ALONE?
NOW WE ALL KNOW WHY HER PARENTS REFUSE CAMERA RECOGNITION...SMART MOVE!

I kind of get putting The Bachelor's melissa on as a replacement. I mean ABC has had a publicity goldmine or some might think publicity nightmare from last weeks Bachelor finale. This gives them the chance of keeping The Bachelor in the news (for at least another week, maybe more). It let's ABC look like the good guy in the whole situation, by treating Melissa nice. It also doesn't make them put in a name at the last minute that they can use on the next season of DWTS.
I mean The Bachelor did record numbers this season. Melissa might not have a huge fan base, but people may feel sorry for her and vote so she's not kicked off the first week since she was dumped on national tv this past week. It actually makes a lot of sense. Cause both Holly (the playmate girl) and Melissa are also throw aways. If they don't last no big whoop.

just my thoughts
