What to Watch Weekend March 14-15

by Kim Potts, posted Mar 14th 2009 5:00AM
Kings'Kings'
(Sun., 8PM, NBC) series premiere
For those who complain there's nothing but the same old same old on TV ... here's something different.

'Deadwood' star Ian McShane is Silas Benjamin, King of fictional Gilboa, rival of the neighboring nation of Gath. When the Gathians take Gilboa citizens as prisoners, a young soldier named David Shepherd ('Eragon's' Chris Egan) rescues the bunch, including the King's son.

What ensues is a David-and-Goliath-ish tale that includes power struggles, romance, backstabbing and some compelling acting by breakout star Egan and the always wonderful McShane. Add in an upcoming guest gig by Macaulay Culkin as the King's nephew and, well, there's weird, wild stuff going on here.

'Tough Love'
(Sun., 10PM, VH1) series premiere
The network has already helped a bunch of tools change their ways, so this new series, from executive producer Drew Barrymore, pairs a group of dating-challenged women with a matchmaker who gives them blunt advice about why they're sittin' home watching reality TV most nights.

'Will Ferrell: You're Welcome America. A Final Night With George W. Bush'
(Sat., 9PM, HBO)
It's a live telecast of Ferrell's one-man Broadway show about former prez Dubya, written by the former 'SNL' funny guy and his frequent movie and Funny or Die.com collaborator Adam McKay.

'Saturday Night Live'
(Sat., 11:30PM, NBC)
Here's hoping for a new installment of 'Brian Fellow's Safari Planet' when '30 Rock' star Tracy Morgan returns to host, with musical guest Kelly Clarkson.

'The United States of Tara'
(Sun., 10PM, Showtime)
While Tara and Kate are away on a road trip (that takes an unsurprisingly dramatic turn thanks to the appearance of T), Max delves into Tara's past to try to find the cause of her many personalities.

'The Comedy Central Roast: Larry the Cable Guy'
(Sun., 10PM, Comedy Central)
You might be a redneck if ... you're on the dais of this roast.

'Family Guy'
(Sun., 9PM, Fox)
We've always known Peter wasn't necessarily a current events guy, but somehow, that whole O.J. Simpson murder trial failed to make his radar. So when the big guy wins a chance to play golf with O.J., he thinks it's a great idea.

'Big Love'
(Sun., 9PM, HBO)
In what has been a season full of great episodes, the penultimate installment of season three finds Bill shocking Joey with a switcheroo on his stance on Roman, Sarah's babydaddy Scott getting a frosty welcome from Bill and Ben and Nicki returning home to an even less warm environment.

Also on this weekend:
- 'Beltway Unbuckled' (Sun., 8PM, History)
- 'Brothers & Sisters' (Sun., 10PM, ABC)

What's on Monday: 'Kyle XY,' 'The City' finales and more
