Gossip Girl: The Age of Dissonance

by Isabelle Carreau, posted Mar 16th 2009 9:02PM
Gossip Girl(S02E18) "Why would you believe me?" - Blair

Rachel's stay on the Upper East Side may have been brief but she surely created some waves. One of which made Blair flat out admit to Serena that she (Blair) isn't to be believed as 9 times out of 10, she would have sent tips such as those sent to Gossip Girl in this week's episode. Not only that, but Blair admitted that she deserved what happened to her in the episode (I won't spoil before the post jump, not to worry) as it was the karma that needed to happen to her because of all the bad deeds she has done. So what will happen to B now that she knows she isn't that nice and got what she deserved? Will she try to become good? Or will she spiral downwards in Chuck Bass fashion?

I think Blair will spiral down. She's used to being in control and getting what she wants. So everything that happened this week from Yuki getting an early acceptance to Yale, to Blair being rejected by Yale, including all those messages on the GG blog, will have her self-destruct for a few weeks until her friends try to get her back to her normal evil self. Anyway, what drama would the show have if Blair decides to take matters into her own hands and actually try to be good as early as next week?

I didn't care much for the episode this week. Yes, it was fun to see the show's characters portray characters on the play that were facing similar problems. So what? I feel like the play only allowed the show's characters to lay out their problems and frustrations, which we the viewers know already about. Most problems have not been resolved which makes me put this episode in the "filler" category: it was a rehash of what people have been feeling for a while.

Even Chuck's storyline, who wasn't part of the play since he's ditching school in favor of running the company, wasn't that interesting. However, I can admit that being played by Elle made Chuck realize that he should be with Blair and, since we all want B+C forever, Elle's presence wasn't for nothing.

One thing the show needs to stop doing is having people be friends one minute, then nemesis, then BFFs without giving us reasons as to why these changes occured. Since when Vanessa is Serena's BFF? Both were on speaking terms but I don't see why they were so friendly and nice to one another all of a sudden.

So what happened in the episode? Blair knows she deserves all she gets; Dan knows Rufus was right about Rachel but he also wants his father to give him more space; Chuck wants Blair; Blair currently wants Carter; Vanessa and Nate are together; Serena will be Blair's friend no matter what. As you can see, not a whole lot of new and unexpected.

Am I wrong thinking this was a filler episode? Where do you think Blair is heading? Share your theories and opinions about this week's episode and what's next on the show in comments below.

Yay! I'm so happy that Elle is gone, but I hate the fact that Blair is getting involved with Carter, and maybe getting back together with Nate. Then again part of me wouldn't mind seeing Chuck fighting for Blair. Really glad the show is back on. For those of you who didn't get a chance to see it, I just watched it at this site here...

Gosh, I couldn't agree more - total filler. I don't know what to think. Josh Schwartz has made a habit of messing up shows that started off insanely promising. Well, just The OC so far. :)

But this latest Gossip Girl episode? Terrible. My synopsis: http://squareeyes.blinkx.com/?p=453
